Since the opening day, and in its thirtieth edition, Sharjah World Book Fair 2011 witnessed great attendance, as a huge audience attended the exhibition and its diverse events, especially Friday, which observed the presence of more than 60 thousand visitors.
Yesterday was distinguished with a unique family attendance, especially for the children’s book Hall, added to cooking, cafes & cultural programs, where the same outstanding turnout was on signing books occasions, which had an unusual crowd around especially on authors such as Robert Lacey and known media icon Turki Al-Dakhil and UAE writer Aisha Al-Kaabi and others. Sharjah International Book Fair 2011 is now completely prepared for its 30th year
The organizers of Sharjah International Book Fair 2011 have a lot of featured events for the audience as it marks the 30th anniversary of its inception. It has an expanded program of seminars and panel discussions to launch the translation grant fund which is 300 thousand USD to support the field of translation, networking and educational programs. Furthermore stands will be specialized to display cook books due to the large turnout witnessed during last year’s fair, as well as the participation of 750 publishers representing more than 40 countries. Submission opens for Etisalat Prize for Arabic Children’s Literature

The UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY) has invited entries from Arab and international publishing houses to participate in the second edition of the AED1 million Etisalat Prize for Arabic Children’s Literature.
The submission of entries by publishers is open until 31 August, after which entries will be evaluated by the jury and the winning title selected. The winner of the AED1 million will be announced during the opening of the Sharjah International Book Fair. Fifty percent of the prize money will go to the winning publisher, while the remaining 50 percent will be divided amongst the other parties as per the decision of the jury.
Highlighting the importance of the prize in motivating the Arabic children’s book industry, Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of UAEBBY, said that the award will contribute to bringing about a healthy competition between publishers, authors and illustrators to produce eye-catching, well-produced and interesting books for children, which will in turn help stimulate a child’s creativity and imagination.
