Production of iPhone larger screens set to begin next month

Apple is expected to launch its next-generation iPhone in the second half of 2012. It is not sure if the device will be named iPhone 5 or something else. The company has reportedly ordered screens from its Asian suppliers that are bigger than the ones used in the older generations iPhones, sources in China revealed.

Production is set to begin next month for the screens. The new size measures at least 4 inches diagonally compared with 3.5 inches on the iPhone 4S, according to the sources. Read more

iPhone 4S sales top 4 million in a weekend

Apple officially launched its new iPhone 4S on Friday, October 14. As it was expected by many industry experts, the phone is a blockbuster.

The company announced on Monday, October 17, that customers bought over 4 million units during the handset’s first weekend in stores.

“iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in its first weekend—the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, according to a company press release. Apple iPhone 4S pre-orders top 1m in 1 day

Only in a day Apple Inc. received more than one million pre-orders for the iPhone 4S.  That accounts to 67 percent more than for the previous version of the mobile device.

Demand for the phone is a tribute to the Steve Jobs legacy, the iPhone 4S is the last phone developed with him at the company.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 4S last week, pricing it at $199, $299 and $399, depending on the features. The device comes with new voice-command features and a higher-resolution camera.
