Following on from the success and growth of its dynamic 2011 edition, the ninth Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) will be held from December 9 to 16, 2012, the Festival announced today at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival.
The Festival, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President & Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, recorded strong growth in 2011 across parameters including its number of films, number of premieres, number of Arab films, capacity, attendance at galas, sales, admissions, industry activity, and in the number and quality of industry and media delegates. His Excellency Frederic Mitterrand, French Minister of Culture & Communication, presents award to Abdulhamid Juma in Abu Dhabi
The French Government has honoured Abdulhamid Juma, Chairman of the Dubai International Film Festival and the Gulf Film Festival, with the ‘Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters’ award (Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) for his contribution to the field of arts and culture.
His Excellency Frederic Mitterrand, French Minister of Culture & Communication, presented the award to Abdulhamid Juma at a ceremony held at the official residence of the French Ambassador to the UAE, His Excellency Alain Azouaou.
The honour recognises Mr. Juma’s outstanding contribution towards promoting cinema in the Gulf region and Middle East – particularly French cinema – and for his role in promoting cultural diversity. The ‘Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters’ award is seldom bestowed on non-French nationals, and the Festival chairman is one of very few individuals from the Middle East to receive the award. Dubai Cares, Oxfam Charity Gala raises over US$1 million

UAE-based philanthropic organisation, Dubai Cares, and global development and aid agency, Oxfam, revealed that the recent charity auction hosted by the Dubai International Film Festival and luxury Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen during the 8th edition of the Festival proved to be an overwhelming success, generating more than US$1 million. All proceeds from the auction, which featured an exciting array of treasured celebrity items and experiences, went to Dubai Cares and Oxfam. Read more
