Dubai Comedians head to New York for historical return of coveted Hickok Belt Award

Once the most coveted honor in American sports, the Hickok Belt™ Award is back, and the countdown begins today to the day when the first Hickok Belt since 1976 will be awarded following the 2012 seasons, to the best athlete in all of professional sports.

The Hickok Belt defined the careers of Sandy Koufax, Ban Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Mickey Mantle, Muhammad Ali and 21 other professional sports legends from 1950 to 1976, and beginning in 2012, with the backing of major supporters like the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA) and the Fergie Jenkins Foundation, it will do the same for today’s greats, and tomorrow’s. The countdow n to the naming of the next Hickok Belt winner began with the recent launch of the award website, HickokBelt.com, and a Kickoff “Comeback” Ceremony and Dinner is slated for October 16th, 2011 at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York, where the sports world will celebrate the Belt’s rich past and look forward to a bright future.

Dubomedy makes “funny” a family business

Ahlan’s Hot 100 Comedy Couple made it official! Renown comedians, Mina Liccione and Ali Al Sayed, were married at a splendid wedding ceremony held in Dubai last Friday, June 24, 2011.

Together, Mina and Ali took their first step as a married couple with the blessings and support from their families and many friends. Guests flew in from all parts of the world to celebrate this special day with the happy couple. The ceremony was filled with both love and laughter, leaving everyone in joyful tears and adding extra sparkle to an already magical evening.

Al Sayed said “ This is so awesome, it’s like the Royal Wedding! All the women are in tears! It should’ve been televised.”

Mina Liccione is an Italian-American Broadway veteran and award-winning Tap Dancer, Comedienne and Performing Arts Educator. Ali Al Sayed is an Arab Stand-Up Comic, Producer and OSN Presenter from the UAE. Together they co-founded Dubomedy Arts; the first Comedy and Urban Arts School in the MENA Region. They worked diligently over the last 3 and a half years to create a local comedy community all while providing professional training, performance opportunities for local artists and using comedy as a tool to bring the many cultures living in the UAE together. Hindi comedy theatre production takes the stage on July 19

Kavve Chale Hans Ki Chaal, a hilarious Hindi comedy production, will treat Indian theatre lovers in Dubai when the cast takes the stage at 7:30pm on July 19 at Centrepoint Theatre, DUCTAC, Mall of the Emirates. The event is one of the Mega Events during DSS 2008 and organized by the theatre group Abimanch.       Read more
