The ‘Hit Machine’ Akshay Kumar Scores Another Rs100 Crore Box Office Smash With Rowdy Rathore

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is on a roll. His second release of 2012 ’Rowdy Rathore’ has smashed records once again and entered the exclusive Rs100 crore club at the box office.

Rowdy Rathore made a very impressive Rs 66.50 crores (£7,780,500) in its opening weekend on 1st June 2012 and to date has made a total global collection of Rs113.80 crores (£12.9 million) making it the biggest hit of 2012 and the first “blockbuster” film of the year. It also marks Akshay Kumar’s biggest box office smash hit to date.

Made on a budget of Rs. 48 crores, ‘Rowdy Rathore’ had a massive opening, making Rs 15.10 crores on its opening day alone. Among the must-watch films at DIFF 2010 are hard-hitting tales from the Arab world and Asia

The seventh Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) is showcasing an array of hard-hitting tales from the Arab world, Africa and Asia, their gripping social narratives making them a must-watch film experience.

Screening on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 10 pm at Cinestar 9, Mall of the Emirates (MoE), is director Shuchen Tan’s ‘Baghdad Film School.’ The film is about Iraqi born filmmakers Maysoon Pachachi and Kasim Abid who developed the challenging idea to open up the first independent film school in Iraq. With a car loaded with video equipment, they undertook their dangerous journey from Amman to Baghdad and in March 2004 they opened up the doors of their school. Their mission was to give a voice to a new generation of Iraqi filmmakers and to let them tell their personal stories. ‘Baghdad Film School’ is a story about film making in a post-war environment and what it takes to be an independent filmmaker in a country tormented by violence. DIFF 2010 Box Office offers genre-specific ticket packages

The seventh Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) box office is offering ticket packages across six genres – Cultural Bridge, Documentary films, Comedy films, Family films, Experimental/Cutting Edge films, and Travelogue/Exploring new worlds – that add to the convenience of movie lovers.

Shivani Pandya, DIFF Managing Director, said: “The DIFF Box Office is gaining good response from movie lovers, who are offered the opportunity to watch never-before-seen films at the festival.
