Biggest customer for Airbus A380, Emirates has inspected four of its superjumbo planes

New directive doesn’t affect operations

The European Aviation Safety Agency ordered Wednesday that all  68 worldwide Airbus A380 superjumbo planes be checked for wing cracks, even as the aircraft manufacturer insisted there was nothing to worry about. The new directive extends an earlier check of 20 A380 jets, whose wings are made in North Wales, ordered by the EASA last month.

Emirates to Launch Airbus A380 to Johannesburg

Emirates (www.emirates.com), one of the fastest growing airlines in the world, announced today that Johannesburg, the industrial and economic capital of South Africa, will be the next destination slated for its flagship A380 aircraft. The daily A380 service will start 1 October 2011.



Africa 4 The announcement of Emirates’ first scheduled A380 service to Africa comes as the airline unveiled its full year financial results for 2010-11. These revealed a surge in the number of South African travellers flying with Emirates – with total passenger growth up 12 percent over the previous financial year. Overall revenue from the South African market also rose sharply, up 34 percent from 2009-10.

The year that saw South Africa host the highly successful 2010 FIFA World Cup also saw Emirates record a huge rise in inbound traffic to South Africa – with passenger volumes up 20 percent in the calendar year 2010. Emirates Airline launches double-decker service to Manchester

The international airline of the United Arab Emirates is now the world’s largest operator of the A380 with 12 in the fleet.

Emirates’ recent A380 order to be powered by Engine Alliance GP7200s Engines

FARNBOROUGH, England – Farnborough Air Show– 19 July 2010 - Emirates (www.emirates.com), the Dubai-based international airline, has selected the Engine Alliance GP7200 engines to power its 32 Airbus A380 aircraft ordered last month. The deal, announced today, includes a Fleet Management Agreement for the maintenance, overhaul and repair of the engines.  The total value of the agreement, including spare engines, is approximately $4.8 billion (USD) over the life of the contract.

The agreement was signed today during a ceremony at the Farnborough Air Show by His Highness (H.H.) Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group and Mary Ellen Jones, President of the Engine Alliance. Read more

Emirates orders 32 Airbus A380 super jumbos valued at US$ 11.5 billion expanding its fleet for tomorrow

Emirates  the Dubai-based international airline placed an order with Airbus for an additional 32 A380 aircraft taking the total firm order for the iconic flagship of the 21st century to 90 super-jumbos.  The order for the additional aircraft has a list price of $US 11.5 billion (AED 42.2).

“This latest order, adding to 58 A380s previously ordered, affirms Emirates’ strategy to become a world leading carrier and to further establish Dubai as a central gateway to worldwide air travel.  The A380 is our flagship in terms of passenger comfort, innovation, operating and environmental efficiency and revenue generation,” said H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al- Maktoum. “Our latest commitment signals Emirates’ confidence in the growth to come in a thriving aviation sector as we build our fleet for tomorrow,” he added. Read more
