The Dubai Mall hosts a record 5 million visitors during DSF

  • The Dubai Mall records weekly visitor footfall of over 1 million during DSF; 30% increase over regular footfall figures

The Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping and entertainment destination, hosted an astonishing 5 million visitors during the one-month Dubai Shopping Festival, setting an all-time record in visitor footfall to the mall. Weekly visitor footfall during the festival month was an average 30 per cent more over regular weeks.

Emaar Malls Group – a key sponsor of DSF 2010, reported positive results across its key retail properties including Dubai Marina Mall, Souk Al Bahar and Gold & Diamond Park with records of strong visitor footfall and sales during the month-long shopping and entertainment extravaganza.

A total of five lucky winners were awarded from Emaar Malls Group’s key DSF promotion: ‘Fly from one Fashion Capital to Another’ with the last of the weekly draws held on March 1, 2010. For every AED 300 spent at The Dubai Mall, Dubai Marina Mall, Souk Al Bahar and Gold & Diamond Park, shoppers received a voucher for the chance to win one of four luxury vacations to the world’s fashion capitals: London, Milan, Tokyo and Paris, and a draw to win a Mercedes C-Class.

The four winners in the ‘Fly from one Fashion Capital to another’ promotion are: Sanda Popa (Romanian), Amr Mohammed Al Sayed Al Najrie (Egyptian), Safa’a Juma Awad Al Azizi (Emirati) and Mithal El Alem (American).

Winners each received a pair of return tickets to the fashion capital destination plus five-days/four nights accommodation near the fashion district. An additional draw was held on March 1 for the Mercedes C-Class courtesy of Al Ain Class Motors, which also showcased 11 of the world’s most luxurious cars at The Dubai Mall during DSF. The winner of the car is Mohammed Noureddin Akbik (Syrian).

Shoppers are charmed by the special showcase of Serbian culture through the traditional dances performed at the mall

Arabian Center, the latest hotspot for shopping, leisure and entertainment, has been host to some of the most sought after activities throughout DSF 2010. The mall which is the key sponsor of this year’s DSF, has continually indulged its customers in the programs specially designed to entertain, ease and attract the whole family with its assorted promotions.

This week witnessed beautiful glimpses of the Serbian culture at the Arabian Centre. The mall came alive with the traditional Serbian folk dance, the Serbian troop living up to its reputation for bringing the community and families through their dance and music.

Deira City Centre is continuing to attract shoppers as DSF comes to a close on Feb 28. The shopping mall is witnessing a shopping spree by shoppers on the hunt for last-minute shopping deals and discounts to mark the end of the 15th edition of the Festival.

Manava Gupta, shopping with his wife Mona Gardi and son Vinesh Gupta, said, “My family has been here in Dubai for almost five years, and year after year we look forward to the DSF season. We visit various malls but we prefer shopping here in Deira City Centre because it is complete with all the brands that we want. The entertainment events also bring a festive feel and it makes shopping an enjoyable experience.”

Fringe Festival brings world-touring Chinese Variety Show to Wafi

The ongoing Fringe Festival at Wafi has brought a new show to shoppers at the mall in the last week of DSF. The Chinese Variety Show, running till Feb 28th, features traditional Chinese dance performances and circus acts in a thirty-minute exhilarating display.

The show begins with a young girl’s enigmatic rendition of a classical Chinese dance. The graceful performance is accompanied by soothing Chinese melody in the background and narrates the dancer’s moments of happiness and sorrow.

Dubai Outlet Mall, a key sponsor of DSF 2010, hosted the colourful Dubai Carnivals on Thursday, February 18, and Al Rigga Street hosted the vibrant event on Friday, February 19. Around 140 performers gathered at Dubai Outlet Mall and Rigga to entertain shoppers and visitors with their antics. Jugglers, musicians, and stilt walkers paraded and stopped for photographs with shoppers.

The Fringe Festival, a DSF attraction featuring theatrical entertainment at its interactive best, began at Wafi, a key sponsor of DSF 2010, on Monday, February 15. The event takes cue from several such Fringe events organised around the world and is a colourful combination of circus, theatre, and music.

Fringe festivals are staged in many parts of the world – such as Toronto, Montreal, Edinburgh, Shanghai, Melbourne and Dublin – to celebrate various forms of art and entertainment, including theatre, comedy, visual arts, dance, and music.
