Update from Sea Dubai Sailing Team: RC44 Valencia Cup

July 28, 2010 · Leave a Comment.........

Valencia, Spain – Great racing conditions with winds of around 12 knots started the first day of the RC44 Valencia Cup but the day ended by testing the limits of crews with winds of up to 18 knots with gusts of 20 and rough and rolling seas. It meant equipment breakages many disappointments but still ensured 28 matches were completed. Sea Dubai started the regatta with two wins, first against Team Austria and then Mascalzone Latino. But the winning streak ended with the match against BMW Oracle. ‘We got a penalty in the dial up with BMW Oracle but sailed the match perfectly taking the lead at the downwind mark,’ said skipper Markus Wieser. ‘We were two lengths ahead at the finish line but we still had to do the penalty turn and unfortunately that allowed BMW Oracle through to beat us. It was very frustrating.’ Read more

Sea Dubai Sailing Team to partizipate in RC44 Valencia Cup

July 27, 2010 · Leave a Comment.........

Valencia, Spain – The RC44 Valencia Cup starts this week and is being run from the 33rd Americas Cup base in the beautiful Spanish port, which is both impressive as much as it is enormous. The purpose built base mingles with astounding ease amongst the historical surroundings of the historical area, which is also host to the Formula One.

This is the fourth round of the RC44 Championship Tour and Sea Dubai Sailing Team has been invited to use the German Americas Cup base, which stands, at the other side of the bay to BMW Oracles base and the Press Centre. The facilities seem larger than life as the RC44 campaign is on a much smaller scale than that of an American Cup syndicate but the basics are similar and it’s an experience not to be missed. The team have completed five full days of training and it’s been a smooth operation in good conditions, which have allowed Sea Dubai to get used to the area and slip back into a well-coordinated team. Now, we expect interest to intensify in our next European destination.”
Mr Obaidalla continued: “Adding Madrid to our network at a time when Emirates’ branding has been so prominent in South Africa is a winning combination. However, Emirates much prefers to hand out boarding cards rather than yellow cards…”
