Around 30 young models to star in week-long fashion extravaganza

Kids Fashion Week, a signature event of DSS that brings some of the renowned names in children’s fashion to the ramp, begins on Sunday, August 1, at Deira City Centre, a member of MAF Properties that is a key sponsor of DSS 2010. To be held till August 7, the week-long event features the latest trends in international children’s fashion. The shows will be held at 6:30pm everyday.

Kids Fashion Week this year features themed shows that will be showcased on the ramp through the combined collections of various participating brands. Brands for this year include A2Z, Sanrio, Zara Kids, Stadium, Okaidi, Woolworths, United Colors of Bennetton, Carnival 4 All. Read more

BCBGMAXAZRIA-owned French fashion store Manoukian opens in Dubai Mall

• Manoukian, the French fashion brand, hosted its launch in the Dubai Mall on July 21^st, receiving huge interest;
• The store launch included a custom built photo studio, allowing visitors to be their own fashion model by “shooting themselves”;
• Manoukian – which stands for feminine, French fashion – hosts a modern collection for the urban young woman of today – taking her from day to night  – from work to weekend;
• The brand Manoukian was bought by Max Azria, founder of BCBGMAXAZRIAGROUP, in 2005, as part of his return to France – the designer’s adoptive country.

Manoukian, the fresh French fashion brand opened its first Middle Eastern store in the Dubai Mall, Wednesday, July 21^st, 2010.  The launch was a huge success, with customers applauding the vibrant launch, the welcoming staff and, above all, the exquisite clothes.  The success of the launch can be supported by the number of attendees seen during the evening.

Dubai Fashion Fiesta 2010 gets ready for a glamorous opening on July 22

Reinforcing Dubai’s well documented reputation as a global fashion capital and a destination for global talent, Dubai Fashion Fiesta 2010 – an official event and a highlight of Dubai Summer Surprises 2010, will open on Thursday, July 22, at the Sheikh Rashid halls C and D of the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC).

The event will run until July 24 with a display of collections by established and emerging designers and fashion labels. In its fourth edition, Dubai Fashion Fiesta will see 30 models take the ramp and unveil the latest fashion trends by Amato Couture, Panache Women, Archana Kochhar, Arabella, Illustra Fashion, Alia Couture, Preston University, Germen Design, Glance Fashion, Nazin Akter, Art Fashion, Haute Pink Couture, KT Brown, Laswa Fashion, Amber Firoz, Rocky S, Hush Saloon Make-over, and designers from Nigeria Fashion Week. Traditional couture to hit the catwalk at Dubai Mall as Sheila and Abaya Fashion 2010

Sheila and Abaya Fashion 2010, a signature event of Dubai Summer Surprises and a fashion highlight this summer, begins today (July at Dubai Mall, a key sponsor of DSS 2010, as designers from UAE and across GCC showcase the latest designs in Sheilas and abayas. Running until July 11th, the shows will be held at the Fashion Catwalk.

Twelve designers and two fashion labels are part of this year’s show. The first day features the collections of Atelier Eli (5:30pm), Ameera Aamer (6:30pm), Sheka Hend (7:45pm), and Homa Q (8:15pm).

“Sheila and Abaya Fashion provides a platform for designers across GCC to showcase the latest designs in sheilas and abayas that are an integral part of Arab culture. Over the years, the event has become known as a one-stop point for buyers, designers, and fashion enthusiasts to share and discuss ideas on Arab fashion that caters to an extensive market,” Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment said.

July 9th features shows of Khyoot (5:30pm), Hanady Ahmed (6:30pm), Mona Fares (7:45pm), and Moza Buamim (8:15pm). July 10th features fashion label Nabrman (5:30pm), Huda Malaak (6:30pm), and Diala Kabbar (7:45pm). The last day of Sheila and Abaya Fashion features well-known labels Hanayen (5:30pm) and Habayeb (7:45pm), and designer Sara Hegazy (7:45pm).

It all began with a suitcase. As Paris and all its possibilities beckoned, Luis Vuitton set off from his hometown of Jura, France, in 1835. In order to finance his trip, he become a luggage maker – a skill he developed to such an extent that he gained the attention of French President Napoleon Bonaparte, who then hired him as personal trunk maker.

Because of Vuitton’s ability to create durable, lightweight and waterproof laggage, he became a hit with royalty and the wives of wealthy businessmen. Whether it was trunk big enough to store heavy and delicate gowns or flat-bottomed suitcases that were easy to store, Vuitton understood his client’s needs.

Such was his popularity that in order to ward attempts to replicate his designs, he began using canvases with patterns and logos. The popular LV monogram was born and would soon become synonymous with luxury travel the world over. Read more

Sheila and Abaya fashion show in Dubai this summer

Ladies from the Gulf shouldn’t miss the catwalk display that will showcase pieces from the Sheila and Abaya market at the Dubai Mall this summer.

Running from July 8th to July 11th, the fashion show promises “stunning designs and beautiful creations”.

This is one of the signature events of this year’s Dubai Summer Surprises and the aim is to give both amateur and professional designers from the region the chance to show off their creations. Read more
