UK government to inspect British schools in Dubai

Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has announced an agreement with the Department for Education of England (DfE) to deliver British Schools Overseas (BSO) inspections in strategic cooperation with CfBT Education Trust.
The announcement coincided with the visit to KHDA by John Hayes, UK Minister of State for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning. Read more

Dubai education strategy revamp project will be completed in a short period of time in two phases of “State of Education”
An updated strategy and implementation roadmap is being developed for the education sector in Dubai to ensure alignment with the Emirate’s and UAE’s long term economic and social developmental priorities. Government of Dubai initiated the project to overhaul the sector in line with the objectives of Dubai Strategic Plan 2015 of which education is a key pillar in Dubai’s vision of building a sustainable and knowledge-based economy and high quality of life. GEMS Education educates more than 100,000 students who represent more than 150 nationalities
The head of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is set to name philanthropist, educator and entrepreneur Sunny Varkey as a Goodwill Ambassador for Education Partnerships.
Mr. Varkey, founder and chairman of GEMS Education, will be recognized for “his contribution to forging innovative public-private partnerships to ensure that underprivileged children across the world receive a good quality education,” according to a news release issued by UNESCO.
The son of Indian expatriates who moved to Dubai in 1959, Mr. Varkey took over the management of his parents’ school in 1980 and transformed the family-run institution into a multinational company. Today, GEMS Education educates more than 100,000 students who represent more than 150 nationalities. Read more

New Registration and Admission Fees Regulations add to Parents Burdens

20% to 30% of the school fees would have to be paid few months ahead of academic year
KHDA officially had given a green light to Dubai based schools to increase their already high tuition fees from 3% to 6%. Parents will have to pay more for education that according to International statistics still lags behind the modern standards.
Along with the new guidelines for school fees increase, KHDA also released new regulations in regards to the registration and admission fees. Previously, schools were not allowed to request parents to pay in advance the school fees for the coming year. The School Fees Framework for Dubai’s private schools has been announced by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). The medium to long term framework will be based on quality of education (as per Dubai Schools Inspection results) and an Educational Cost Index (ECI) calculated by the Dubai Statistics Centre.
