Following the overwhelming success of the 2011 edition of the ‘Battle of the Chefs,’ a widely followed industry event that showcases the best in culinary talent in Dubai, The Address Montgomerie Dubai, the organiser and host of the event, is taking it to the next level for the 2012 edition.

Al Tamimi Investments opens up competition to postgraduate students for the first time

Registrations are now open for the third season of The Big Start student entrepreneur competition. The annual competition, run by Al Tamimi Investments (ATI), gives UAE-based university students a chance to become the CEO of their own business and win full funding and operational support for their idea. For the first time, the competition will be expanded beyond undergraduate students to include submissions from final year postgraduate students that are under 30 years of age. Read more

United Arab Emirates crew wins Braun Battle of the Year qualification in Dubai on October 1, 2011

Nothing fits better to fashion stores, gold souks and a multicultural audience than b-boying. In the Emirate of Dubai, Middle East’s melting pot, 11 dance crews from as far as Jordan, Oman and Kuwait battled for the only group ticket available to represent the region at the grand final of the Braun Battle of the Year 2011 in Montpellier, France. The world’s seventh biggest shopping mall – the Dubai Mall – provided the perfect backdrop for today’s regional qualifier. All three levels of the ‘Star Atrium’ were crowded with people enthusiastically cheering the collectives on stage. The ‘Over Boys’ from the UAE break danced to victory and now get their chance at the world championship on November 19, 2011.

Aladdin was on the stage, just as the Kings of Teheran and the Middle Beasts, but no one could beat the dynamic ‘Over Boys’. In a tight battle against the ‘Breakestra’ crew from Bahrain, earned the highest score from the three-headed judges panel. “I want to thank all the boys for fighting so hard and investing so much of their time in the past months and weeks. Thanks to the judges for making us so happy and thanks to all the people who came here today”, was the team’s head b-boy overwhelmed in the minutes after the official decision, jumping almost as high as the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, reaches into the sky right outside the event venue. Zayed Future Energy Prize: Submissions close on September 19, 2011

Zayed Future Energy Prize, the world’s preeminent award for innovation, leadership, long-term vision, and impact in renewable energy and sustainability, announced that the submissions process for the 2012 edition will be closed on September 19, 2011.

The award which offers a total prize fund of US$4 million – the world’s largest annual prize purse for renewable energy solutions and sustainability, has already received an outstanding number of entries, drawing participants from 80 countries from around the world: North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, India, China and Australia. INDEX to host third annual Contemporary Majlis Competition

• Six finalists selected from over 60 designers across the globe
• Designs to showcase the future of the traditional Arabic space
• Winner to be announced on the first day of INDEX 2011

The Contemporary Majlis Competition will run for the third consecutive time at this year’s INDEX Exhibition, the Middle East and North Africa’s largest and longest established Interiors and Design Exhibition, from October 22-25, 2011. This year’s competition will feature six leading Middle East interior designers who will be tasked with designing a contemporary Majlis, showcasing their vision of the traditional Arabic space with a modern cutting edge and innovative design.

This year’s six finalist designers include Sinmar Al-Said of Internal Line Interior Design, Ghandour El Habre of Khatib & Alami, Mimi Shakshashir of o’de rose, Carrie Das of AHK International, Basak Yuksel of PF Emirates Interiors and Sven Mueller of SVEN M. Read more
