For the first time in its history, DP World’s Dubai Cruise Terminal has welcomed four mega cruise ships at the same time, underlining its ability to cater to the rapid growth of cruise tourism in the city.

Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates airline, one of the fastest growing international airlines, has bolstered its operations on the booming Africa trade route.
Supporting the thriving trade between Africa and the rest of the world, its weekly cargo capacity into and out of the continent will be over 6000 tonnes after the launch of flights to Lusaka and Harare on 1st February. Read more
Union Railway project gets ahead

The UAE Cabinet gave a green light today to the Union Railway Company to borrow Dh 4.7 billion from banks and international corporations to finance the construction of the Shah-Habshan-Ruwais Railway project. The train project will link remote areas of the country with urban areas through a safe and fast network, contributing to the development of all regions. It is expected to further boost the land transport and the national economy.
The Union Railway Company was initially set up with a capital of Dh1 billion.
Opportunities for private investors in public transport

An initiative to open up Dubai’s public transport sector to private investment is in a process of development, as the emirate is stepping up efforts to promote the greater use of existing options and rolling out plans for new public transport projects.
The proposal to open up the public transport sector to private investment has been raised a number of times over the past decade. However, the idea gained momentum in January 2011, when the RTA announced it had submitted draft legislation to the government aimed at encouraging private participation in the transport sector.
