Etisalat plans to cut international call tariffs by up to 30%

A part of the overall product revamp for home products, Etisalat plans to cut international call tariffs to few countries by up to 30 percent, an executive told the press. The discussed cuts come as Etisalat, which operates in 17 countries, refocuses on its domestic market.
The plans are at an early stage and need regulatory approval, but are likely to come into force in the second half of 2012, according to Etisalat’s vice-president, Rashed Alabbar.

Etisalat will soon offer internet TV on tablets and computers, the telecom company announced Thursday.
Rashid Majid Al Abbar, vice-president of Home Products Marketing for etisalat, told the company’s ‘eLife’ package would be on offer by October. Read more

Internet phone service (VoIP) is a strikingly different kind of technology as compared with the traditional telephony. Earlier, landline phone relied on copper wires and analog signals for voice communication. Since then, there have been tremendous advancements in telecommunication technology and the present day phones use the latest internet technology for both incoming and outgoing calls.
VoIP converts analog voice signals into digital data packets to facilitate two-way transmission of conversations in real time using the Internet. But, the earliest version of internet phone was a standard phone that used the dialup connection for communicating. GSMA Announces Winners of the 17th Annual Global Mobile Awards
The winners of the 17th Annual Global Mobile awards, held at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, were announced on March 1st.
This year’s Global Mobile Awards represent broad victories for Samsung, with its two headlining awards, and the Android operating system in general. Though the iPad 2 won the Best Handheld Tablet award, many of the notable winners at the GMAs were Android-flavored, including SwiftKey, an Android keyboard, for most Innovative Mobile Apps, and Google Maps for Android, for Best Consumer Mobile Service. Telecoms play important role in supporting and developing the education sector in U.A.E., according to Ali Alahmed, Etisalat’s Chief Corporate Communication Officer.
During his presentation entitled: ‘Learning in the IT age: Etisalat’s efforts to enhance and develop the education sector in the UAE’, Alahmed stated that the ICT sector is witnessing new revolutions and is becoming a part of everyday life in the world. He clarified that 45 percent of mobile phones in operation today are smartphones, while 60 percent of those purchased today are smartphones, and this trend is expected to increase as the global population increases.
Alahmed continued: “Etisalat has provided its customers with the necessary infrastructure through a variety of achievements; namely the most recent launch of the LTE network. The first and widest network in the region is considered a revolution in terms of information sharing and enhancing remote learning through the high speeds it offers, which can reach up to 100 megabytes.” Read more

Etisalat today announced new data iPhone 4S plan for its postpaid customers, offering the new device without any upfront payment. Etisalat’s new 1GB data plan make it more affordable for customers to step up to data on the country’s fastest network. Customers can surf the Web, download apps, share photos or watch videos on their new iPhone devices for a monthly rental as low as AED 200.
