Third annual survey on Ramadan traditions and practices reveals interesting results

For the third year in a row, Yahoo! Maktoob Research has undergone a recent region-wide survey on attitudes and perceptions of people during Ramadan. The survey questions tackle sensitive areas related to traditions and practices giving straight and direct information of how people perceive Ramadan and how this perception changes each year. Unlike last year the number of Muslim Arabs observing the Ramadan fast this year is down by 2% (98% in 2009). The survey also revealed that a vast majority of this year’s respondents (87%) prefer to celebrate Iftar with their families at home. Read more

CNN today announces Mohammed Jamjoom’s appointment to international correspondent based at the network’s Middle East production hub in Abu Dhabi.

Saudi-born Jamjoom joins CNN’s roster of anchors and correspondents covering the Middle East and his remit includes reporting the day-to-day news from the United Arab Emirates, covering breaking news stories across the region where the network’s newsgathering needs require and continuing as part of the rotation of correspondents reporting for the network from Iraq. ADMC to publish the first Arabic-language version of National Geographic magazine

Abu Dhabi Media Company (ADMC) and National Geographic today announced a partnership to publish the first Arabic-language version of National Geographic magazine. The new monthly publication, National Geographic Al Arabiya, will be available in Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Syria and Sudan. The first edition is expected on newsstands 1 October 2010.

National Geographic Al Arabiya will provide readers in the region with greater access to National Geographic magazine’s award-winning features on geography, archaeology and natural science, as well as its iconic imagery of natural beauty from around the world. Complementing this global content, more than 20 percent of each issue will be generated locally, with unique features of particular relevance to regional readers.
