Dubai Public Library Launches Eighth Edition of ‘Our Summer is Filled with Culture & Arts’ Programme

· 11 day children’s programme to provide a variety of family-orientated activities and workshops in August

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for heritage, arts and culture, has announced the launch of the Dubai Public Library summer programme ‘Our Summer is filled with Culture & Arts’, which comes in line with the authority’s efforts to support of the UAE National Strategy for Reading 2016-2026 and the Year of Reading 2016 initiative launched by the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and supported by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

The much-anticipated Dubai Public Library children’s summer programme which comes this year under the theme ‘We read for a happier tomorrow’ will run between 7th to 18th of August across five Dubai Public library branches, and is set to attract kids. The activities are aimed at providing children and young adults with a range of educational and entertaining activities that encourage the use of Dubai Public Library facilities.

The ‘Our Summer is filled with Culture & Arts’ programme is open to all age groups, with activities revolving around four key themes: happiness, reading, family and the future. To achieve the initiative’s wider aims under the ‘Year of Reading 2016’ banner, a number of collective workshops and training courses will serve to enrich the summer activities programme. Furthermore, the Dubai Public Library management has signed agreements with private companies to participate in delivering the wide-range of activities.

Programme events will be held in Arabic and English and take place across five Dubai Public Library branches: Al Twar, Al Rashidiya, Al Mankhool, Umm Suqeim, and Hatta. The activities will be available free of charge to all members of Dubai Public Library, with a minimal fee for non-members.

In addition, as part of the summer programme, Al Twar Library will host a family-oriented activity from 10am to 1pm under the theme ‘We Read for Our Future and we Innovate for Our Happiness’ provided by Al Saad Pre-school, a member of the Arabic Language Protection Association. This activity will be launched at Al Mankhool public library from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Saturday 13th August 2016.

The Dubai Public Library network includes eight libraries for adults and another seven for children, as well as multi-purpose halls, classrooms. All branches of the Dubai Public Library are connected via computer systems and have links with other modern libraries, providing access to vast sources of information and knowledge on an immense diversity of topics in both Arabic and English.
