The iconic Burj Khalifa in the heart of Downtown Dubai is attracting thousands of visitors, being the tallest man-made structure in the world. Although currently it has no actual competition, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia is building the Kingdom Tower, which will be the first building exceeding 1 km.  and will become the tallest in the world. By this time, however, Dubai may have its second-tallest tower.

Real estate developer RP Global has announced plans to build RP One – a mixed-used development, which will be launched in 2015, according to the company’s website. Rumors spread by local media outlets suggest that it may become the second-tallest building in Dubai, after Burj Khalifa, which has no other structure to be even remotely compared with in terms of height. As of 2015, the emirate is home to more than 900 high-rise buildings, with around 90 of them standing at over 180 meters. With a height of 414 meters, the second-tallest one is the Princess Tower, which compared to the 828-meter Burj Khalifa, is a pint-sized skyscraper – if such a notion is even possible.

So, can be RP One so tall indeed? Apparently, architects and designers are still working on the plans, as the company admits that the decision on the tower’s potential height hasn’t been made yet. The building will be located in Business Bay, right behind the Business Bay metro station on the Sheikh Zayed Road. It will be a luxurious and ultra-stylish mixed-used development and will feature high-end retail and office space, 5-star hotel accommodations, as well as fully-serviced residential units.

Its developer, RP Global, is the real estate development company of RP Global Group, which has interests in various business areas, including construction and industrial developments, hotels and hospitality, trading operations, healthcare and wellness, and education. Along with RP One, the developer is also planning RP Heights – a signature project in Business Bay. It will be a 50-storey residential tower, offering not only great location – just a few minutes’ walk of Downtown Dubai, but also exceptional build quality and design. According to the company website, the investment for both projects is around $1,5 billion.
