6 Things Your Real Estate Agent Won’t Tell You

“Another agent can make you more money”

No real estate agent will admit it, but they aren’t always the best. In fact, sometimes agents will ignore your home in favor of another client, whose mention will sell for a lot more. There’s also the case when agents overprice the property (so they can get you as a client) and then they just can’t sell it. Either way, if the agent doesn’t do their job perfectly, you won’t get as much as you hoped for.

“I don’t know anything about this neighborhood”

Good real estate agents know almost everything about the property you are interested in, including details about the neighborhood. Is there crime here? Are the neighbors too noisy? Are metro or bus stations nearby? The good agent will be able to provide you with all this information, as well as details, that may even make you step back from the deal. However, some agents have no idea what exactly they are selling, while others simply won’t tell you.

“I would never buy this home if I were you”

Sometimes when we look for the perfect home, we tend to overlook some things, while falling for others. But agents aren’t emotional about the deal, so they usually notice much more than they say. And while we’re excited about finally finding a great-looking property at a good price, they probably know there’s something wrong about the home.

“This home is overpriced”

Although your agent should work for your interests, they may fail to enlighten you on one very important fact – that the home you are about to buy, is way overpriced. And the reason is logical – the bigger price tag means a bigger commission. This is why you should look for an honest agent.

There are many things you should look for in an agent, but most importantly, they need to have good knowledge and experience and to be straight-forward with you, even if they don’t tell you what you want to hear. Some people will say they don’t need a professional help in selling or buying property, but going through this entire process all by yourself is risky, especially in the ever changing regulatory environment of a big city such as Dubai. The best strategy is to hire a long term real estate agent with a good reputation who works for a well established company.
