Traditionally, expats in Dubai use the few days off on the occasion of Eid Al Adha holiday to travel outside the country. However, this year, the Eid Al Adha calendar of events in Dubai is so full and diverse that leaving the city will be the last thing on your mind.
In 2014, Eid Al Adha is expected to fall on 5 October (Sunday) and people will probably get a long public holiday. This year’s celebrations will start earlier than usual and will continue for a longer period of time.
Dubai Festivals and Retails Establishment (DFRE) already announced that the events and celebrations related to the holiday will run for 17 days and will offer family entertainment, concerts, exhibitions, theatre and comedy performances, fashion and shopping events and many more.
To help you plan your Eid Al Adha holiday, we have prepared a calendar of all the key events that will be held between 25 September (Thursday) and 11 October (Saturday).
25 – 30 September
Most of the first Eid Al Adha events in Dubai will focus on family entertainment and will be suitable for kids. Two of them will even be completely free – Circo Boom and Dino Live. Circo Boom will run from during the entire holiday and it is guaranteed to feature a great dose of laughter and entertainment for young and old. Dino Live, known as the world’s biggest movable dinosaur exhibition, will take you back in time when giant beasts used to rule the earth. It will showcase different exhibits and offer various theme zones. In addition to that, there will be a 3D cinema. The event will be held at the Arabian Centre Shopping Mall and it will run for half an year!
The largest consumer electronics and IT show in the Middle East, GITEX Shopper, will kick off on 27 September. The event will continue until 4 October and, like always, it will include many exciting product announcements by some of the biggest technology brands in the world. Also, there will be plenty of shopping bargains for attendees.
Sesame Street Live’s show Elmo Makes Music is a must-visit for children and parents. As the name suggests, it will feature plenty of jolly music, as well as some of the most loved Sesame Street characters, like Elmo, Big Bird and Abby Cadabby.
1 October – 4 October
Starting 2 October, the traditional Eid Firework will light up the night sky of Dubai every evening at 9 p.m. until the very end of the Eid Al Adha celebrations.
On 3 October, the 2014 edition of the Big Boys Toys UAE will begin. It will take place at Skydive Dubai, Dubai Marina and it will lineup some of the top luxury lifestyle products that can be found on the market.
Ladies will also enjoy some special treatment since the 4th season of Fashion Forward will run between 4 October and 6 October. The show will introduce the Autumn/Winter collections of rising designers from the region. Also, there will be many discussions lead by world fashion experts and gurus.
Again, on 4 October, children will have the opportunity to go visit Aladdin – An Arabian Adventure musical show. It will be based on the Aladdin tale from The Arabian Nights and it will be suitable for kids of all ages.
As you can probably imagine, 5 October will be particularly busy in terms of shows and events. Two great concerts are scheduled for this day. Concerto, an Australian musical troupe will perform their very first show in the United Arab Emirates on Eid Al Adha. Music fans can also go to the Layali Al Eid concerts that will cover 5 October and 6 October. It is offer performance by Oumnia Mohamed, Melhem Barakat, Ayman Zbib and many others.
Dubai residents and visitors that love to shop will have more than one chance to do that this Eid Al Adha. The Eid Family Fun Fair will include many food and beverage stalls and kiosks, shows and games. Rhythm of Arts will, too, feature outdoor food stalls and even organic food stations. In addition to that, there will be colourful and entertaining cultural celebrations, music performances and decorations.
6 October – 11 October
During the last days of Eid Al Adha, celebrations will gain even bigger momentum. However, it will be concerts and comedy shows that will dominate. As a start, there will be two Rotana Concerts on 6 October and 7 October. The first will include Rabeh Sakr and Shamma Hamdan, whereas the second will focus on Mohammed Abdo and Arwa. Wonhoo Chung Show on 7 October and MAX AMINI Stand Up Comedy Show will make this Eid more hilarious and fun than ever.
Many of these events will run through the very end of the Eid Al Adha celebrations – 11 October. This means that tourists in the city who want to enjoy most of the shows will need to find an affordable accommodation. The good news is that many hotel brands that operate in the city, including Hilton, are likely offer special Eid room rates.
