If you are not a regular Dubai Metro commuter, you should at least remember to try this mode of transport on 9 September this year. This is the date on which the Dubai Metro will mark its fifth anniversary. As a part of the celebration, metro riders will receive various surprise rewards that will amount to millions of dirhams.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is preparing to celebrate the fifth birthday of the Dubai Metro. For that purpose, it will organize various festivities and special events at the different stations of the metro. Five of these stations (they will selected shortly before 9 September) will entertain commuters with an event called Dubai Metro Riders Surprises. One of the surprises will give 100 randomly selected people 50 silver coins with the Dubai Metro logo on them. However, these coins will be more than a souvenir since each of them is estimated at AED 2,000 or a total of AED 100,000.
Children born on the same date on which the Dubai Metro was launched (9 September, 2009) will also get the chance to win some great prizes in the Metro Baby competitions. In order kids to participate in the contest, their parents need to upload their photos on social media websites and add the hashtag #IAmAMetroBaby. Also, they can join in the Best Five Congrats initiative by recording video clips in which they congratulate the Dubai Metro for its fifth anniversary. Again, the short clips need to be posted on social networking websites along with hashtag #MetroTurns5 in order to participate in the draw.
Five winners will be selected from each of these contests. The two best of them will get a ticket to Euro Disney for them and three other members of their families, while the rest of the winners will be surprised with other gifts. Finally, all of the top contestants will each receive a gold coin with the Dubai Metro logo on it worth AED 10,000.
In addition to that, all metro riders can get special, limited-edition NOL cards to mark the anniversary of the Dubai Metro. The cards will be offered at all metro station in the city.
Therefore, make sure you mark your calendars for 9 September, because that will be the best day this year to take the Dubai Metro.
