What to Do in Dubai This Weekend

It’s time for some weekend planning! The weather in Dubai is wonderful, so instead of staying at home, explore the city and the many shows and entertainment options it will offer during the weekend. Besides the exhibitions, sports events and nightlife parties, this week’s calendar is marked by some of the greatest music shows you’ve ever seen.

One of the most successful soul singers of all time and owner of five Grammy awards, Lionel Ritchie is coming in Dubai this April. This week, tickets went on sale at prices ranging from AED 295 to AED 1,500, so if you are among his thousands of Dubai fans, get a ticket as soon as possible and don’t miss the show! It’s scheduled for 17th April and will be held at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre. Prepare to enjoy some of his classic hits – Hello, Say You, Say Me, Dancin’ on the Ceiling, My Destiny and a lot more.

Another world-famous music star is coming to Dubai – Carlos Santana’s show will be one of the main gigs during Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival, taking place between 13th and 21th February. The 12th edition of the festival is following the previous-year format of Main Gigs during the two weekends with Jazz Garden, which will present some of the best performers in jazz, classic and indie rock, pop and urban styles at Festival City. The program starts on Thursday night with Juliana Down and the headliners of Earth Wind & Fire Experience feat. The Al McKaay Allstars on the Emirates Stage, while on the Toyota Stage you can see hard-bop musicians Tony Lakatos feat. Kirk Lightsey, followed by Miles Davis’ drummer Al Foster feat. Wallace Roney. On Friday, the festival will present British pop band The Wanted, as well as Olly Murs, who rose to fame after participating in the 2009 edition of The X Factor UK. The Toyota Stage will present you Kirk Lightsey who will be performing with Ricky Ford, Tibor Elekes, and John Betsch. And the truly legendary Larry Carlton, who has four Grammy awards and 19 nominations, is appearing at exactly 11.00 pm. Prices start from AED 350 for regular standing, while the VIP terrace seats will be AED 995.

Another music festival this week is the first edition of the RedFest DXB at Dubai City Amphitheatre on 13th and 14th February. The headliner of the fest is Ke$ha, but you can also see Conor Maynard, The Lumineers, Marvin Humes, John Newman, Naughty Boy, and many, many DJs, as well as one of the hottest artists today, Jessie J. Day passes are starting from AED 299.

On Friday night, sports fans can head to the Autodrome at Motorcity for the Grand Prix Circuit configuration, featuring NKG Racing Series, UAE Sports Bikes Championship, Radical ME Cup, Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge ME and Formula Gulf 1000. Racing starts at 9.00 am. and access is free, so you can take your friends and enjoy the speed! The 2013/2014 horse racing season is also continuing this Saturday at Meydan Grandstand and Racecourse at Nad Al Sheba.

These events are just a fraction of what Dubai is offering during the weekend. Of course, you can also visit the Global Village, go to the cinema, or simply see some of the various attractions and iconic buildings that turned the city into one of the most visited places on Earth.
