On Monday, December 2, the United Arab Emirates will celebrate its 42nd National Day with traditional fireworks, parades and exhibitions across all seven emirates. And the public sector can expect a long, 4-day holiday, most likely to start from Friday through Monday.
UAE public holidays for 2013 were announced by Abu Dhabi Government last December and according to this calendar, the holiday should continue for two days – Monday and Tuesday. However, this year UAE government employees will most likely to enjoy a four-day break on the occasion of the country’s 42nd National Day. The first working day for the public sector will be Tuesday, December 3. Employees from the private sector will again work more – they will have a paid holiday on Saturday, November 30. Of course, these dates don’t make a lot of sense for many private workers who already have Saturdays off.
The seven emirates will mark the National Day with different initiatives, championships, exhibitions, and many others. Among the celebrations in Dubai, the government has planned a wide range of festive performances, family activities, fun attractions for the kids, and of course, the UAE Nationnal Day Parade which will take place on the Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard. It will start at 3.00 pm and will continue for about two hours, gathering thousands of participants. Under the slogan “The Happiest Nation”, the main venue for the celebrations will be Burj Park Island will welcome residents and guests of the city with different events, activities, and performances. The evening will end in style with a splendid fireworks show accompanied by giving little gifts to everyone.
The other emirates have also prepared a wide range of events to commemorate the 42nd anniversary of the country’s independence and unification. Traditionally, the capital, Abu Dhabi is holding massive firework displays. There will be also an aerobatics show, a car parade and a women-only beach celebration on December 2. One of the biggest events organized under the patronage of Shaikh Nahyan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, will be the 11-day Abu Dhabi Shooting Championship. It will run from November 17 to November 27 and will include 27 governmental teams that will compete in the championship.
