What to do during the Weekend in Dubai


Are you already preparing to celebrate the upcoming Eid Al Adha and planning how to spend the short holiday break? But did you have time to come up with a fresh idea for this weekend in Dubai? There will always be household chores and duties, but the weekend is for resting and having fun, after all. This week, Dubai’s calendar is full of events and entertainment, and we have picked up some of its highlights below.

In the 21st century, more and more people are becoming “greener” and environmentally-wise. If you are interested in making your life greener, you should check out the fourth edition of Future Green 2013 exhibition running this weekend in Dubai at Dubai Marina Mall. The two-day event will start on Thursday and will showcase new and emerging eco-friendly products, services and sustainability solutions. The future Green Event will provide many activities and products for the entire family and promote different local green initiatives. You will see exhibitors from various sectors – green awareness and education, organic food and green living, beauty and health, clothing and accessories, energy and water efficiency, recycling and others. And the event is free for the general public.

On Thursday again you can enjoy the launching of Middle East’s top fashion event, Harper’s Bazaar World of Fashion. The event will bring all the latest Autumn/Winter trends and fashion statements to Mall of the Emirates for the third time this weekend in Dubai, and if you consider yourself a fashionista, you shouldn’t miss it. The week-long event will host over 20 catwalk shows in addition to the premier of the World of Fashion Studio and Harper’s Bazaar Exhibition. Ingie Chalhoub is said to close the runway with style revealing limited-edition works from Etoile La Boutique. You will also see collections by contemporary brands like Bebe, Salsa, Berksha and Katakeet, so if you are tempted, head to the South Galleria, Mall of the Emirates.

cycle-race-3aOn Friday, sports and athletics fans can observe the second leg of the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge 2013 series. At the largest event of its kind in the Middle East, cyclists will have to overcome a 45 km ride to classify for the next challenge. Tickets are AED 50 and the event starts at 6.00 am at Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park.

Fashion and shopping lovers will experience another great event this weekend in Dubai. The Numaish Festive Fair will be held this Friday at the Address Hotel, Dubai Mall, just in time for the Eid & Diwali festive season. The event is inspired by the traditions across Asia and the Middle East and will introduce many top designers, as well as emerging talents mostly from India, Pakistan and the UAE. You will see and may purchase apparel, accessories, jewelry, art and home décor items, as well as many gifts for your closest people. The expo starts at 10.00 am. and is is with a free entry.

American rapper Rick Ross is coming to Dubai for the first time this for his live show at Al Badia Golf Club this Friday. Named “Hottest MC in the Game” by MTV last year, Rick Ross is mostly famous for his hit single “Everyday I’m Hustlin!” The audience will be warmed up by DJ performances by Skinny Loop, C-Walk, Jay Sa and Junior J, so if you are a fan of R&B and rap music, go to Al Badia Golf Club at Intercontinental Dubai Festival City. Tickets range from AED 250 to AED 450.

And if you prefer wise humor and sarcasm, you may check one of Britain’s most popular comedians and TV personalities, Alastair James Hay “Al” Murray this weekend in Dubai. Best known for his character, the Pub Landlord who is a xenophobic, stereotypical, right-wing British patriot, Murray was voted the 16th greatest stand-up comic on Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Stand-Ups. His show, Al Murray The Only Way is Epic Tour starts at 8.00 pm at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Ticket prices are AED 300 for regular and AED 500 for VIP admission.

For five months, the seasonal cultural, shopping and entertainment expo will offer visitors various festivals, open-air theme park, a Chinese Circus, 36 retailer pavilions and 26 restaurants. This year, more than 70 countries will participate with stands and shows, and many shopping options for Dubai residents and guests. The street shows will include a Lion Dance, Fire Show, and Drumming Circle. There will be also dances and cultural shows from Bollywood troupe, Polynesian, Aboriginal Australian, and African dancers. The entry is only AED 10 and free for kids, so check it out, you won’t regret it.

The week-long GITEX Shopper expo will also kick off this Saturday. It is the largest consumer electronics retail platform in the Middle East showcasing the latest tech innovations and products. There will be lots of exhibitions and conferences, but the most exciting for you and the kids will be the different competitions, games and activities during the expo. It will be held at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, so if whether you are an IT professional, tech enthusiasts, a student or just love electronic gadgets, find some time to attend to it.
