Have you planned a travel this weekend? If you are staying in Dubai, there are plenty of options for entertainment for you and the whole family. As always, Dubai has a lot to offer to its residents and guests – from crazy club nights to fancy restaurants, from fun adventures for the kids to school and educational exhibitions. Yes, of course, the new school year is coming, so you will need to think about this, too. But first of all, check out some great events happening this weekend in Dubai that will just knock your socks off.
There are only a few days left from the summer holiday, so if you have children, you will need to prepare them for the new academic year. First, this includes purchasing notebooks, pens, clothes, shoes, backpacks, Math tools, and everything the ever-demanding Dubai schools require. However, you would better find out what classes your kids will have and what kind of after-school activities they can take. For three days, from Wednesday to Friday, you can explore the special Back-to-School exhibition, which is held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. It’s a children-oriented event, so there are a lot of games and fun activities related to school and learning. This is the perfect opportunity to get the kids enthusiastic about going to school! The event starts every day from 10.00 am and the tickets are priced AED 15 (individual), AED 50 (family), and AED 100 for a group admission (10 people). However, do not keep high expectations about this event. If you are a parent of school kids, most probably you may find larger variety of back-to-school items at the specialised stores and save the entry fee.
This Friday will be quite an interesting day, especially for music fans, but let’s start with something more challenging. The largest cycling event in Dubai and the region, The Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge will be held for the third year and is expected to gather more than 2,000 local and international athletes. In fact, you can also register to take part in the race, because this is an event for amateur cyclists. Although there are only two days till the challenge, the registration at their official website is still open. The first build-up will be 35 km ride at the Nad Al Sheba Cycle Track. One of the prizes will be a LOOK 695 Aerolight, ridden by the Cofidis team in Tour de France. The bicycle is valued at over AED 30,000. Keep in mind, you need a real bike and you can’t borrow one from the Downtown Dubai.
Famous songwriter and singer Horace Andy who most of us know for his years-long collaboration with the huge Massive Attack is coming to Dubai’s The Music Room this weekend in Dubai. Horace Andy Meets the Deep Crates Cartel show will be an incredible experience for all reggae and ska fans, so if you love the Jamaican root culture, don’t miss out. Of course, the night out and the AED 75 ticket will be worth it, even if you go only for your love of old Massive Attack and (un)traditional trip hop.
There is another musical suggestion, but this time for those who prefer acoustic tunes. Filipina actress, songwriter, singer and guitarist Aiza Seguerra will be performing live at Asiana Hotel this Friday. One of the most popular musicians of the Philippines will entertain the audience with songs by Filipina band MYMP, or Make Your Momma Proud. It might sound weird to you, but this will be a night to remember, we are certain of that. No children will be admitted, so leave the kids home and prepare AED 125 for the ticket. The show starts at 9.00 pm.
All shoppers this weekend in Dubai will be able to get advantage of the following event. This is the “End of Season” promotion of ‘Summer is Dubai’, during which customers could win a range of prizes including cash and shopping vouchers. If you haven’t shopped at some of the participating malls, which is highly unlikely, spend AED 200, and you will have a chance to take part in the final promotion. The grand prize is 1 million dirhams. The Millionaire raffle draw is scheduled for September 7, so you don’t have much time left. Happy shopping!
