What to Do in Dubai This Weekend

The weekend is coming and many people in Dubai are planning to spend their free time at home with their families. Yes, the weather is still so hot in the emirate, but it doesn’t mean you should stay inside your home. Get out this weekend and have fun with your family and friends or just by yourself! In this article we have selected some of the most entertaining family, cultural and night events during this weekend in Dubai.

One of the most massive initiatives by the Dubai Festivals & Retail Establishment, Summer is Dubai, is still on to entertain kids and grown-ups with plenty of events, shows and retail promotions. The children’s festival Modesh World is running through August 28 in Dubai World Trade Centre. This week, you can take the kids to Hall No.1 to see Thomas and the Hidden Treasure. The show about our favourite, little train starts every day at 4.30 pm. and at 8.00 pm until August 21. Another show for the kids starts this Tuesday Dubai Festival City Mall – Dora the Explorer and her best friend, the purple monkey Boots come to the city to entertain the little ones with their endless adventures. In addition, your children will take some foreign language lessons along with the games.

If you want to see something really spectacular, head to the Dubai Mall, where within the Eid in Dubai festival, the one-of-a-kind Mermaid Show will take your breath away. The show is definitely not only for children – it features underwater acrobatics and performances by world famous Olympic synchronized swimming medalists. Of course, there will be mermaids swimming with sharks and other sea creatures. The exotics show will be held three times a day at the Aquarium, Dubai Mall.

The other breathtaking event, starting this week, is Cirque Eloize’s iD which will be performed every day at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The Quebec-based circus troupe is coming to Dubai for the first time and will feature bind-blowing acrobatics and amazing urban dances. Ticket prices range from AED 150 for Balcony to AED 1000 for a Diamond ticket and are quite overpriced in comparison to similar shows in other countries.

And one must-see for all music fans in Dubai – the first concert of Arab Idol Live Tour 2013 starts at 9.00 pm. on Thursday night. The three finalists, the winner Mohammad Assaf from Palestine, Ahmad Jamal from Egypt and Syrian Farah Youssef will perform at the Dubai World Trade Centre.They will be joined by the Lebanese superstar Ragheb Alameh, so what are you waiting for? Get a ticket and prepare for the ultimate music entertainment! Tickets are from AED 150 to AED 900 and include a dinner (besides the standing ticket category). If you want to get a good place, get there earlier because the doors open at 7.00 pm.

On Friday, you can enjoy the second edition of the Dubai Arabic Comedy Nights in the Mall of the Emirates. You will see on stage Adel Redwan, Ahmed Fathaldin, Thamer Al Hazmi and Shakir Al Abdali. If laughter is what you need, this will be the perfect place for you. The show starts at 7.00 pm at the VOX Cinemas Theatre, the Mall of the Emirates and tickets are AED 150 and AED 250 per person.
