UAE Job Vacancies on the Web Registered a Drop

The number of job openings posted online in the United Arab Emirates has decreased compared to 2012. The biggest drop was seen in the consumer service sector.

This finding was made by the Monster Employment Index for the Middle East region. The research uses job vacancies posted online to measure and examine the job demand. What it discovered was that the amount of job postings in the UAE has dropped with 19%.

Positions in the consumer service sector registered the most dramatic fall. There, job postings decreased with the massive 41%. Job positions in chains for purchase, logistics and supply also saw a drop which was estimated at 21%. The third biggest fall was witnessed in industries like hardware, software, as well as telecoms. There the fall amounted to 17%.

Sectors which had the lowest growth levels included automotive, production and manufacturing, ancillary, insurance, banking, financial services, IT and internet and telecom service providers.

Even though the job postings in healthcare jumped with 13%, those in travel and hospitality increased with barely 1%. Moreover, one of the most stable and strong industries in the United Arab Emirates, communications/arts/creative and marketing, saw a decline of 7%.

In general, the most powerful sectors in UAE were healthcare with year-on-year growth of 15%, hospitality (12%) and real estate, engineering and construction (5%).

The situation in the Middle East region was not much brighter. The decrease in job postings was estimated at 14%. Nevertheless, Monster’s research points that this fall is greatly impacted by global factors rather than regional ones. The study states that ME employers have become more cautious due to the current global business conditions.

Job postings in the region that registered the lowest growth level were those in telecom, software and hardware. Things were similar with occupations like admin, consumer service, purchase/logistics/supply chains, HR, account, as well as finance.

Jobs which saw the highest growth in the Middle East were travel and hospitality, healthcare, communications/arts/creative and marketing, production and engineering, and business development and sales.

The country with the most impressive year-on-year growth was Egypt with 16%. Second and third were Bahrain and Saudi Arabia with 13% and 8%, respectively. The lowest growth rate was that of Kuwait which is reported to amount to -26%.
