Top 5 Movies to Watch This Weekend in Dubai

Got some plans for the weekend? Or you just plan to spend your days off the same way you always do – sleep all day, do some laundry, have dinner with your mother…It’s nice to waste your time once in a while, but to be honest, there are more entertaining ways to do that. If you’re into noisy night clubs and posh cocktail evenings, take your best friend to the Dubai Mall’s Reel cinema to watch some of the newest, best and most hilarious films of this week.

Take a look at our list with the Top 5 Movies and make up your mind, just be careful with the popcorn and sugary drinks! You wouldn’t like an extra pound or two, right?

No matter what genre you like one of the best movies you can watch this week is Man of Steel. Superman’s return to be big screen is super successful and just can’t be missed, especially with that new vision of the story. Director Zack Snyder (300, Dawn of the Dead, Watchmen, Sucker Punch) added more action, more explosions and hardly any humour. This Superman is grim, dark, edgy and violent and it feels more like Batman in fact. And who says stories about superheroes should be funny? It’s greatly done, the story is beautiful, and the fight scenes are amazing.

Still, if you don’t like action scenes, you can always spend the evening laughing with the incredible duo – Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson in Internship. Although there were many negative reviews about it, it is still a pretty good collection of laughs and jokes about how overwhelming the digital era can be for two men in their 40’s. During their internship in Google (yep, an aggressive product placement, but who cares?), Vaughn and Wilson have to compete with a lot younger people for their jobs, a mission almost impossible.

Another recently released movie that caused a lot of debates but still worth watching is After Earth. You may not like the story, you may not even like science fiction, but surely, you will like Will Smith. The film tells the story of a 13-year-old boy and his father (Will Smith), who crashes their spaceship at the future Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events, forced the humanity to escape and inhabit another planet. The father is injured, so the boy must grow up and become a soldier, if they want to survive. The movie is an intense sci-fi classic for all movie and Smith’s fans.

And for all kids and their parents who prefer true fun, we have another title – Epic. It is a 3D animation which has a lot of adventure, entertainment and magic. The tale-like movie is greatly done and you will love the characters, played by Hollywood stars, or their voices to be exact. Colin Farrell, Beyoncé Knowles, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, and Steven Tyler are only a part of the great team that worked on this project! Epic will meet you with Mary Katherine, a girl shrunken down by the queen of a tiny, magical civilization who founds herself in a difficult situation – she has to save this mini world from the evil. So, we promise you, the film is not only fun, it is epic!

The final movie in the list is a must-see for all Jason Statham fans. If you miss the somehow pointless but still incredibly entertaining films such as Blitz, the Crank movies, Death Race, or The Expendables, you shouldn’t miss Hummingbird, or also known in the U.S. as Redemption. Unlike Epic, this film is definitely for adults only, so if you want to see it, you’d better hire a babysitter or get the kids to their grandparents’. It’s not an action, or a thriller only, it has a lot of drama, so it may even surprise you. Of course, if you don’t like Jason Statham, just don’t waste your time with this movie!
