As we already informed you, this year’s Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week kicked off yesterday with full speed. The event will continue until Thursday and it will include some of the most famous designers and brands in the fashion world.

One of the big headliners at yesterday’s shows was Dior’s couture collection. The outfits in it were designed by Raf Simons. Simons took the place of John Galliano last year and this is his second couture collection for Dior.

The Belgian designer shared his ambitious vision about the Dior show in Paris. Simons said he wanted the collection to speak for itself. Also, the designer tried his best to capture a spring feeling in the outfits.

Inspiration

Raf Simons pointed classic fairytales as his inspiration for the collection. That was actually quite obvious. The runway theme was Alice in Wonderland. The models walked the outfits around an intricate bush maze. All of the designs at Dior’s show were very feminine and delicate. That laid an emphasis on the silhouettes of the models.

Dresses & Skirts

Skirts and dresses were seen throughout the entire collection. Dior’s dresses included many layers, mainly made of organza and silk. In addition, they were clinched at the waists. As a result, the gowns resembled tulips. The skirts, on the other hand, were bolder and more extravagant. Also, a big part of them impressed with volume.

Traditional vs. Modern

Simons had included some of Dior’s trademarks like peplum shapes and silk bustier. However, the designer surprised everyone with his fresh and modern ideas. One of them was the evening wear in the collection. It was in the dreamy colours of pale pink and blue. In addition, the Belgian designer had added some contrast to the designs. He successfully mixed them with tailored blazers and matador trousers. Their colours were also unusual – dark orange, mint and aubergine. In addition, Simons included some of his own signature trademarks. Among them were the cigarette-legged trousers and narrow jackets.

Makeup

The makeup complemented the general theme of the collection in an excellent way. The models wore lipstick of deep red tones and crop wigs. Such is available at Blomingdales.com and Sephora.com. In addition, their skin was pale which highlighted the outfits even more.

Celebrities

Like on every Dior show, there was a stardom of Hollywood names. The celebrities which attended the event included actresses Rosamund Pike, Sigourney Weaver and Jessica Alba. All three of them rocked Dior outfits.

Next on the runway are Karl Lagerfeld, Armani and Stephane Rolland. They will introduce their spring/summer couture collections today.
