Massive boost for medical industry as Dubai marks National Day by strengthening its reputation as a global medical epicenter

In a strong signal of Dubai’s fast-growing position as one of the world’s leading medical capitals, the emirate is projected to be worth US$10.9 billion (approximately 40 billion AED) by 20131. The two major factors driving this growth are the increased investments by government and international investors, as well as Dubai’s emerging role as a leading destination for medical tourism. The substantial growth in investments is expected to yield a sharp rise in new medical institutions, research and medical education facilities. As Dubai celebrates the UAE’s 41st National Day, this boom is in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum – Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai – to make Dubai a leading destination for healthcare investments.

In addition to new institutions, Dubai is also receiving growing interest from international pharmaceutical companies who are striving to make breakthroughs in medical cures. This trend is further boosted by the ever-growing number of highly skilled professionals who are applying to work in Dubai. What is particularly notable is that Dubai’s leading hospitals such as Saudi German Hospital-Dubai have attracted professionals from some of the world’s most prestigious medical institutions in Europe and elsewhere.

Commenting on Dubai’s booming health industry, Dr Reem Osman, CEO of Saudi German Hospital-Dubai, explained: “The sharp increase in applications can be attributed to two main factors: firstly the massive increase in investments; which in turn has been attracted by Dubai’s impressively high quality of services. This chain reaction will create a continuous cycle, because the best professionals want to work at the best hospitals, which in turn attracts the best investments, and so on. At Saudi German Hospital-Dubai we have committed ourselves to investing substantial resources in Dubai, because we fully believe in the emirate’s potential to become the very best medical destination in the world.”

The upward trend gives Dubai’s health community an added boost during National Day celebrations, as it symbolizes how far the country has come to improve healthcare access for all citizens, residents and medical tourists. To give patients an added boost, Saudi German Hospital-Dubai is offering a 50% discount on all its services encompassing Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Oncology, Cardiovascular / Respiratory, General Health and numerous other fields. The hospital will also participate in the Union Tree initiative to celebrate the strong health of the nation.

Summing up the future prospects of Dubai’s medical industry, Dr Reem Osman of Saudi German Hospital-Dubai said: “National Day is a terrific reminder that we are privileged to live in a country that is attracting the best medical investments, building the best facilities and recruiting the best specialists. Medical tourists travel around the world just to access facilities that the rest of us can access any time. That’s why Saudi German Hospital-Dubai is offering 50% discount on all services during National Day, to celebrate the tremendous progress Dubai’s medical community has made.”
