Almost 1 million Xbox consoles sold in a week

The Xbox 360 console sales riched a new record last week, when Microsoft sold almost 1 million units of its device around the big Black Friday shopping.

The company posted about this huge retail success on its blog. Microsoft launched its first Xbox console nearly seven years ago and now it scored its best sales week ever. The total number of Xbox 360 game consoles that were sold was over 960,000 for one week only in the U.S. In addition to that, the tech giant managed to sell over 800,000 units of its product on Black Friday.

But Microsoft’s achievement doesn’t end here. More that 750,000 Kinect sensors for Xbox 360 were sold for the same period. This number includes devices sold separately and in a bundle together with the game console.

This commercial success may be due to the fact that this year Microsoft developed and offered lots of Kinect games. Currently, the number of such games is about 75. This is four times more compared to 2011. Another reason why Xbox 360 sold well is that many popular games had a new version this year. Among them are Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Gears of War 3 and Forza Motorsport 4.

Next week on Tuesday, Microsoft is expected to release a big Xbox Live dashboard update. It will include a new social section that will take the place of My Xbox. From December onwards, FiOS users will have the chance to use a few live TV channels through their Xbox 360 consoles.

Microsoft also said that it is very likely Xbox 360 to become the most sold game console in the U.S. for the eleventh month in a roll. Moreover, the company expects that it will be the most popular game console  in 2012.

We remind you that Xbox 360 was also listed among the best Christmas gifts for kids this year. Microsoft’s playstation is still available with super holiday discounts at Microsoft Store. So grab it while you can!
