International fashion houses set great example for Dubai and wider Middle East based luxury retailers and investors on how to engage the young generation, and utilise skills and vision in order to benefit the society.

For example, Louis Vuitton has recently formed an academic partnership with Italy’s oldest school of cinema.

The French fashion house has cemented a three-year relationship with Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (Italian National Film School).

Louis Vuitton feels privileged to aid students of cinematography, set and costume design in their creative tuition.

“Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and the house share a lot of values in common: transmission of heritage, savoir faire, passion for creation and support of talent,” South Europe president of Louis Vuitton  fashion house Geoffroy van Raemdonck explained. “We share that this is the oldest school, and we are a very old fashion brand. It was very easy from the first discussion to understand how this partnership would live.”

Louis Vuitton will help establish a scholarship for students with low income, create special workshops in tandem with the school’s curriculum, offer tutoring and form an honours committee composed of key figures in cinema.

The first year of this partnership, Louis Vuitton will host a special costume design workshop that focuses on fashion designs of the late 17th century. The course will be led by legendary Italian costume fashion designer Piero Tosi.

Although Italy’s economy is struggling at the moment, Geoffroy thinks it is imperative that the company supports the nation’s up-and-coming creatives.

“Italians are a key consumer for us. We need to look at the future. Italy will get out of this crisis,” he explained to WWD.
