Emirates NBD, a leading bank in Dubai and wider Middle East, announced that it has won the 2011 Global Award for “Brand Leadership in Banking and Financial Services.” Emirates NBD’s “Truth and Reality” campaign also received the award for “Best Marketing Campaign of the year” along with other leading organisations like Star, LG and DHL Express.

The awards were received on behalf of Emirates NBD by Vikram Krishna, Head – Group Marketing and Branding, at the award ceremony held alongside the World Brand Congress 2011, in Mumbai, India.

Held every year since 1999, the World Brand Congress is considered one of the single largest rendezvous of best brains behind some of the world’s most successful and sought after brands. Alongside the Congress, the Global Award for Brand Excellence is presented to organisations that have played a significant role in building their company brands on the international scene. Award submissions are judged by an independent jury comprising of senior professionals from Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Brand Strategy and Corporate Communications.

“Emirates NBD is proud to receive the Global Award for Brand Leadership in Banking and Financial Services, as this is a testimony to the innovative financial products and services offered by the bank, and a recognition of the effectiveness of our marketing and branding strategy,” said Krishna. “Over the last year, Emirates NBD has employed an innovative 360 degree marketing approach, which encompasses eight distinct fields of consumer insights, product innovation, internal branding, brand activation, events & sponsorships, local area marketing, digital marketing and communications. As a consequence, Emirates NBD’s brand value has grown by US$300 million to touch US$1.25 billion, making it the 130th most valued brand in the world.”

Launched just two years ago in November 2009, the Emirates NBD brand has successfully positioned the bank as one of the largest and most comprehensive local financial services provider in the UAE, capable of delivering enhanced value across corporate, retail, Islamic and investment banking throughout the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. The only bank from the UAE to win an award at the event, Emirates NBD was amongst 300 companies from 80 countries across the world, to receive an award.
“It is rewarding to know our approach to provide an enriched banking experience to our customers through simultaneously strengthening several customer-facing areas at the bank has been very well received in the market. The award is also a fitting tribute to our international expansion strategy which has successfully positioned Emirates NBD on par with brands of international distinction,” added Krishna.

This is Emirates NBD’s third international award this year, for marketing and branding excellence. In September 2011, the bank was awarded ‘Marketing Department of the Year’ at the eighth annual International Business Awards ceremony, also known as the Stevies from the Greek word for ‘Crowned.’ The Emirates NBD brand also established its place among leading global brands such as Siemens, Daimler, Cisco, General Motors and Coca Cola, as its ‘Truth and Reality’ brand campaign was recognised as Distinguished Honoree in the category of Communications or PR Campaign of the Year, at the global business awards programme.

Prior to The Stevies, Emirates NBD has also been named ‘Asia’s Best Brand,’ at the 2nd CMO Asia Awards for Excellence in Branding and Marketing in August this year. Emirates NBD was awarded the title based on the mind, market and commitment share of the brand among consumers in the specific product category. Emirates NBD was the only bank from the UAE to win an award at the event, and was also recognized as the “Best Employer Brand.”
