SCAD Building Materials Prices Report for Q3, 2011
Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD) issued today its monthly report on the prices of building materials for the month of September and the third quarter of 2011.
The report presents an analysis of the movements in the prices of the various materials used in the construction industry in Abu Dhabi market during September and the third quarter of 2011.
The dissemination of the report, which gives a wide range of price data, is intended to serve the needs of data users in the public and private sectors in research, planning and decision making in ways that support the construction sector, besides related and dependent sectors.
According to SCAD’s report, the prices of several building materials groups have undergone changes during September 2011 compared with August 2011, with the largest rise recorded in the average prices of the “Construction labour” group, which leapt 13.5 percent, with price increases within this group ranging between 7.1 per cent and 25.0 per cent. The “Paints” group rose by 4.2 per cent mainly as a result of a 27.3 per cent increase in the price of “Paints / Durosan matt emulsion /Gallon /U.A.E”. In addition, the prices of “Aggregates and Sand” rose by 1.0 per cent and “Bathroom Set with Accessories” by 0.8 per cent.
During the same comparison period, however, the prices for “Concrete” decreased by 11.9 per cent as the prices of the items constituting this group retreated by 11.8 – 12.0 per cent. In addition, the prices of “Wires for Residential Towers” decreased by 7.2 per cent, “Wires for Small Buildings” by 5.9 per cent and “Power cables” by 5.4 per cent.
As SCAD’s report reveals, the largest rise during September 2011 compared with September 2010 was recorded in “Transport equipment rents”, which shot up 37.7 per cent. The next largest rise was in the prices of “Wires for Apartments”, which grew by 27.1 per cent as a result of an increase in the price of “Electrical wire / Sinjil Corps / 4 mm lap / Ducab /U.A.E.” by 29.4 per cent. Furhtermore, the prices of “Tiles and Marble” rose by 21.5 per cent and “Aggregates and Sand” by 21.4 per cent.
On the other hand, there was a decline in the average prices of a range of building materials groups during September 2011, compared with September 2010. These include the prices of “Glass”, which fell by 21.3 per cent, “Sink Stainless Steel with Mixer-Single” by 11.7 per cent and “False ceiling” by 4.5 per cent.
The reports also analyzes the average prices of building materials during Q3 2011 compared with Q2 2011, revealing increases that ranged from 0.4 percent for “Bathroom Set without Accessories” to 15.6 per cent for the “Aggregates ‘&’ Sand” group. In this regard, the average price for “Steel” and “Cement” increased by 10.2 per cent and 8.6 per cent, respectively.
The average prices of “Diesel”, “False ceiling”,” Tiles and Marble”,” Waterproofing Products” and “Natural Stone” stabilized during the third quarter compared with the second quarter of 2011.
By contrast, the prices of a number of other building materials groups declined in Q3 compared with Q2 2011, led by the drop in the average price of “Paints”, which decreased by 16.7 percent, followed by declines in “PVC Pipes” by 10.2 per cent, “Wires for Small Building” by 7.5 per cent, “Sink Stainless Steel with Mixer-Single” by 6.0 per cent and “(UPVC) Pipes” by 5.2 per cent.
SCAD reported rises in the average prices of sixteen out of 21 building materials groups during Q3 2011 compared with Q3 2010. The increases ranged between 1.9 per cent for “Diesel” and 37.7 per cent for “Transport equipment rents”.
Other increases include a rise in the prices of “Power cables” (up 30.6 per cent), “Aggregates ‘&’ Sand” (up 30.6 per cent), “Wires for Small Buildings” (up 24.8 per cent) and “Steel” (up 22.8 per cent).
The average price for “Natural Stone” remained stable during Q3 2011, compared with Q3 2010. A number of other commodity groups however, showed a decline in average prices during Q3 2011, compared with Q3 2010, including the prices of “Glass”, which fell by 25.1 per cent, “Sink Stainless Steel with Mixer-Single”(down 14.7 per cent) and “Blocks” (down 4.5 per cent).
SCAD’s monthly report of building materials prices report surveys the prices of 21 groups of commodities and services that represent the most important materials used in the construction activity, including cement, aggregate, sand, wood, steel, concrete, cement blocks, etc.[mpoverlay][/mpoverlay]
