Dubai Business Women Council discusses ‘Developing Leadership Skills’

Dubai Business Women Council, the official representative organization for business women in the Emirate of Dubai, hosted its ‘Monthly Lunch Majlis’ at the Dubai Creek and Yacht club – The Golf Function Suite.

Held for the third time, the event witnessed the attendance of its board members, members and business women from all over the UAE. The Council, which was established in 2002, is headed by Mrs. Raja Al-Gurg and is currently in the process of launching its new website to cater to the members’ needs and requirements.

The guest speaker at the event was Dr. Hibah Shata, winner of Roll of Honor at the recent Emirates Women’s Awards. Through her presentation, Dr. Shata addressed the audience on the importance of developing leadership skills and formulating a clear method to utilize ideas, potentials and resources in order to achieve positive results. Eva Longoria is right now on her first trip to the Middle East.

Today, she is in Dubai and tweeted from the 124th high Burj Khalifa‘s observatory At the Top: “Hello Dubai! I’m in the tallest building in the world! Armani building also called Burj Khalifa, its beautiful here!”

Technically, the supertall skyscraper, built by Emaar Properties is only a home to Armani Hotel Dubai, but not called Armani building. As this is Eva’s first time visit to Dubai, we tend to forgive her the small inaccuracy. Read more

Emaar seeks $800 mln loan guaranteed with shopping malls

Sources revealed Emaar Properties is seeking an $800 million two-tranche loan aiming to provide guarantees with four of its shopping malls, including The Dubai Mall.

The facility consists of a five-year tranche and an eight-year amortizing loan. According to bankers, it  is being arranged by Dubai Islamic Bank , National Bank of Abu Dhabi and Standard Chartered. Read more

UAE students to introduce sustainable designs at INDEX

• Graphic Design Challenge introduced to create new brand image
• Finalists to construct prototypes at INDEX 2011

  INDEX, the Middle East and North Africa’s largest and longest established Interiors and Design Exhibition, in association with Interior Services Group (ISG) and local design organisation tasmena, are challenging design students across the UAE with the INDEX Student Challenge 2011. Open to design students at all universities within the UAE, this year’s challenge theme is reuse – as in “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”. Students will be tasked with creating design applications using local waste materials in the region, for example plastic, paper or wood. Traditionally targeted at interior design students, this year’s INDEX Student Challenge broadens its platform by also introducing a new Graphic Design Challenge. Read more
