In the global media, few recent articles that have not been yet confirmed, claim that a hacker struck the Dubai government’s system on Friday.

After taking a break from Sony, the loosely-affiliated hacker group Anonymous is said to be waging cyber attacks against the governments of Iran and the United Arab Emirates, according to Yahoo.com.

So far, there is not much known about the attacks in the Emirates, but according to The Independent, “a lone hacker – apparently with links to the group  (hacker group Anonymous) – struck the Dubai government’s system, releasing a ‘historic list of former gov.ae email passwords’, the domain used by the Arab Emirate.”

The cyber attack against the Dubai government was lesser in magnitude than the one aimed at the Iranian government. Only about 100 user names and passwords have been stolen, which are deemed to be old.  The Anonymous member said attacking the systems of Dubai government was in response to their restriction on internet usage and the aim was to teach the government that they have no power on the internet.
