Shoe boxes filled with essential items from community donations were handed out to the workers across the UAE recently, by the organisers of the third annual Shoe Box Appeal.
Team members from the Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City and UAE’s Red Crescent Society joined forces to make sure that the shoe boxes containing numerous lifestyle staples reached the right hands.
Pasquale Baiguera, the hotel’s General Manager said that the ten-week campaign, now in its third year, received tremendous support from the community, especially school children.
“The Shoe Box Appeal collects boxes filled with personal items used on a daily bases which are then presented to the nation’s labour force. The essential kit includes a toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving cream, aftershave, shampoo, talcum powder, nail clipper etc. This annual campaign is led by the Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City, as part of our annual Responsible Business activity†said Baiguera.
Mohammad Al Zarouni, General Manager of the Dubai branch of the Red Crescent Society said that the campaign has been well executed. “It has been another successful year for the Shoe Box Appeal and I am delighted to have my team participate in the distribution exercise.â€
The appeal works on the simple idea of collecting daily used items to make up a ‘gift box’ each valued at approximately Dhs 100. The boxes are received at collection points in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
According to the organisers, the 2010 appeal received support from school children as well as the corporate community, who all encouraged their families and friends to pitch-in. TECOM Investments’ Media Cluster, Al Barsha’s Lulu Hypermarket, City7 TV, The National, Time Out Dubai and Strategic Solutions were all on board to support the 2010 campaign.
