UAE and Ireland to strengthen cooperation in the fields of technology and Knowledge Economy

HE Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy, said that economic diversification policy adopted by the UAE has contributed to strengthening the position of the nation globally and in building an attractive investment environment for major projects from around the world. He was addressing a high-level delegation from Ireland led by His Excellency Octev, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation and Batt O’Keeffe TD in his office in Dubai.

The two parties discussed ways to strengthen economic relations between UAE and Ireland by identifying investment opportunities and exchanging information on projects of common interest. The two sides focused on a number of sectors of common interest such as industry, small and medium enterprises, alternative energy, software and aspects of the Knowledge Economy, among others.

The two sides stressed the need to enhance trade by adopting effective coordination mechanisms, activating the work of the Joint Economic Committee, and launching economic forums. They also highlighted the need to speeden the formation of joint task forces to drive economic relations between the two countries.

Mr Al Mansoori said cooperation with Ireland can be strengthened in areas such as industry, technology and small and medium enterprises, and alternative energy, noting that the UAE focuses on policies aimed at to promoting the culture of innovation and creativity and in transitioning to a knowledge-based economy.

He stressed the importance of the recent visit of Her Excellency Mary Mc Aleese, President of the Republic of Ireland to the UAE, which further strengthened bilateral relations between the two countries. The Minister pointed out that the agreement to avoid double taxation was signed between the two countries in July, aimed at strengthening cooperation and partnership between the two countries to cover all areas of common interest and strengthen the investment climate to attract government investments as well as encourage private sector investment.

Mr Al Masnoori congratulated Ireland on its strategy of attracting foreign investments, particularly in the area of advanced technology and industries.

The delegation visited the Ministry’s offices and customer service center. The Irish minister praised the advanced services provided by the Ministry to the customers.
