Etisalat introduces new ‘Wasel Homeland’ International plan for calling selected Asian countries

Etisalat today announced a new international-calling ‘Wasel Homeland’ plan for its Wasel prepaid mobile customers, offering them great value through a heavily discounted rate of 99 fils/minute for calling selected Asian countries. Under the new plan, Wasel customers can fully enjoy the discount while calling their friends and families in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Philippines anytime during special off-peak hours from 5pm to 9am, Saturday to Thursday, throughout the day on Friday and public holidays.

The new Wasel Homeland plan gives Wasel prepaid customers the chance to enjoy discounts on international calls made during the extended off-peak hours, with no rentals or subscription fees. Under the plan, all local calls will be charged at 35 fils/min for the first minute and a flat day rate of 30 fils/min from the second minute onwards. All other international calls will not be affected and will be charged as per the normal rate and timings.

To take advantage of the attractive 99 fils Wasel Homeland plan, Wasel prepaid customers can subscribe by simply sending an SMS, ‘e99’ to 1010. Alternatively they can subscribe through IVR by calling 125, select ‘3’ and then select ‘1’ for the “Wasel Homeland” plan. In addition, customers can call customer service at 800 PROMO (77666) or visit their nearest Etisalat business centers or outlets to subscribe or unsubscribe without any fee.

Commenting on the new International plan, Khalifa Al Shamsi, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Etisalat said, “The new Wasel Homeland plan is in line with our strategy to provide additional value to our customers, by enabling them to save more while conveniently reaching out to their family and friends in their home countries, on a more frequent basis. This plan not only provides tremendous value to our Wasel prepaid customers, but also enables them to take advantage of these attractive rates on Etisalat’s high-quality network that covers the entire nation. Furthermore, customers can now pick and choose from various “value” options provided by Etisalat, such as Super Off-Peak plan, Favorite Country plan, Global Friends & Family plan, and now the Wasel Homeland plan, thereby providing customized options based on their diverse requirements.”

On extended off-peak hours, Al Shamsi elaborated, “Our customers can call their families at more convenient hours of the day, not worrying about the time differences between the UAE and Asian countries. At the same time, it gives them the flexibility and peace of mind from knowing that they can talk for longer and at more attractive rates.”

Wasel prepaid customers who are interested in opting for remarkable international calling rates to all global destinations, outside of the four Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Philippines) covered in the Wasel Homeland plan, can do so by subscribing to Etisalat’s Super Off-Peak plan. It allows customers to enjoy a discount of an extra 60% on international calls, providing them with attractive rates of as low as 55 fils and 76 fils per minute for the most frequently called destinations made during the Super Off-Peak hours from 11pm -7am every day.

Etisalat also announced that it will soon adopt a simplified and worry-free flat-rate plan for selected voice-calls aimed to increase clarity. The new plan is simple and affordable and also benefits customers with one contingent off-peak timeframe for international calls made from their mobile phones and fixed-lines. Starting 15 November 2010, all local calls made between mobile and fixed-line, and from mobile to mobile, will be charged at 30fils/minute all day long. Customers not subscribed to any of Etisalat’s international calling plans such as Super Off-Peak, Favorite Country Plan or any other plan, will continue to enjoy off-peak rates on international calling, during off-peak hours between 9pm to 7am.

As per the simplified structure across Etisalat’s product portfolio, customers subscribed to Super Off-Peak plan can take advantage of afternoon off-peak rates from 2pm-4pm and 9pm-11pm, enjoying extra 45% on fixed-line, 40% on GSM post-paid and 35% on Wasel prepaid subscriptions. It also entitles them to a 60% discount on such calls made from 11pm to 7 am on all days. Business customers can enjoy off-peak rates throughout the day by choosing the Business 24/7 plan.

Additionally, customers who subscribe to Etisalat’s international cost-saving calling plans like the Global Friends & Family and Favourite Country plan will be able to enjoy discounts throughout the day. With the Global Friends & Family plan, customers can select any three international numbers for 24-hour discounts of 20%, for a monthly fee of AED 20. The Favorite Country Plan brings 24-hour discounts of 40%, 35%, 30% for fixed line, GSM post-paid and Wasel prepaid customers respectively.
