10th FINA World Swimming Championships to attract swimming champions to Dubai

The Local Organising Committee for Dubai 2010 welcomed the General Team Manager of the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation, Mr Add Van Groningen to Dubai this week for a 3 day visit.

Van Groningen was visiting Dubai in preparation for the forthcoming 10th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) to be held 15 – 19 December at the new Dubai Sports Complex.

The Dutch National Team ranked number one on the medals table at the 2009 European Short Course Swimming Championships which were held in Istanbul, Turkey 10 – 13 December 2009. They won a total of 14 medals which included 10 gold.

Currently, the Dutch National Team are preparing a full team of 24 swimmers and 9 staff for the European Long Course Championships, Budapest 9 – 15 August 2010, and the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships, Eindhoven 15 – 21 August.

Then the team will focus all its attention on the 10th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m).
Van Groningen confirmed “We will look to bring a big team of medal winners to Dubai to compete against the rest of the world”.

Van Groningen went on to say “Dubai is amazing, I have travelled all over the world, and there is nowhere like Dubai. The hotels are of superior standard whether it’s Three, Four or Five Star, and the people everywhere are so friendly”.

Van Groningen was further impressed by the state of the art swimming facilities currently under development at Dubai Sports Complex, and vowed to share this information with his colleagues in Germany and Belgium.
Over the 5 days of the 10th FINA World Swimming Championships (25), it is expected to attract over 30,000 visitors, up to 1000 swimmers and 250 media from over 140 countries.

Tickets for the championships will go on sale in September.
