Kalima and UPP team up to bring Arabic Readers the World in Books

Kalima, a major new translation initiative by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), which funds the translation, publication and distribution of high quality foreign writing into Arabic, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with United Printing and Publishing (UPP), a fully owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Media Company (ADMC), to publish major works of world’s literature, philosophy and other fields of humanities for Arabic language readers.

Each year Kalima translates and publishes more than 100 titles of classic, modern and contemporary writing from around the world, by bringing together publishers, literary agents, authors, translators and printers, with the aim to provide more availability and choice of book titles to Arabic readers.

Dr. Ali Bin Tamim, Manager of Kalima said: “Our partnership with UPP stems from the desire to bring to Arabic readers beautiful books in every single way. We are confident that UPP, through its world-class standards in print quality, and environmentally-friendly presses and materials, will make a valuable contribution to our present endeavors and to the development of the book publishing industry in the Arab world”.

Recently, UPP has started production in its new state-of-the art facilities in Shahama, and has acquired new printing presses worth AED 100 million. The company’s continuous efforts to stay at the forefront of the printing market have been recognized by partners and customers, with UPP witnessing already an upturn in demand from the beginning of the year.
