Dubai based Alqassim Hamidaddin shines again in Yas Marina Circuit with a second place finish in the Chevrolet Supercars Middle East Championship
Round 4 of the Chevrolet Supercars Middle East Championship was held on Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi this past weekend on the 5th and 6th February 2010 in support of the Asia GP2 Championship. Dubai based Alqassim Hamidaddin from Saudi Arabia, qualified his Q Racing Team car in third position in the SC06 class of the championship in a field of competitive drivers. First race took place on Friday the 5th, and saw a fierce battle through out the race which included a lot of contact and cars going off track which resulted in the disqualification of Alqassim for that race. “It was a tough race, I got hit twice, spun around once, and eventually got black flagged for going off track†Alqassim added, “coming into turns 7 & 8 two cars in front of me locked their brakes and I had to cut through the chicane off track to avoid contact. I did not slow down to give back the advantage I gained and in result got disqualified.â€
Alqassim was able to bounce back the next day for race two and in turn one was able to gain 3 positions to lead his class. In lap 7, Alqassim lost the lead to Faisal Rafii and held on to finish the race in second position. Alqassim said, “I had a very good start and got to first place in turn one. The competition was very fast and was close behind me all through the race. I had lost my rearview mirror in the first lap and was not able to keep track of drivers behind me. I lost the lead in lap 7, and struggled the remaining laps to maintain second place. I am happy that I brought the Q Racing Team car in second place and was very happy to know that we got maximum coverage on TV while doing soâ€
Alqassim is currently second in points in the championship and is looking forward to the remaining 3 rounds to close the gap to first place.
The Chevrolet Supercars Middle East Championship will be back again to Abu Dhabi for Round 5 supporting the Australian V8 Supercars Championship, and will then head to Bahrain for Round 6 in support of the Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix, and will have their final Round 7 in Riyadh to conclude the season.
“I’m looking forward to the next rounds of the championship and God willing I will be able to continue finishing on the podium and collecting maximum points. The gap is big to first place in the championship, but I will do my best to close the gap and try to finish the championship in first placeâ€
