Jotun inaugurates SAR100 million state-of-the-art paint factory in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia
Highly-automated factory has total capacity of 110 million liters of paint and coatings
Jotun Saudia Co, Ltd., the local subsidiary of the Norwegian paint & coatings producer Jotun A/S, has inaugurated its new SAR 100 million state-of-the-art paint and coatings manufacturing facility in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. The new facility has been set up in response to the growing demand for high quality paints and coatings led by the fast-growing construction industry in the Kingdom.
The factory is adjacent to Jotun’s existing factory covering a total area of 34,000 square meters. Together, Jotun’s installed production capacity in the Kingdom is now 110 million liters of paint, making it one of the largest in the Middle East.
Jotun, a pioneer in the paints and coatings market, has set new trends in Saudi Arabia by introducing concepts like computerized tinting and special effect paints. The company has also been in the forefront of introducing environment-friendly products and strives to meet the changing aspirations of consumers.
The new factory employs state-of-the-art technologies and features the highest level of automation in the Kingdom to produce water-borne paints. The fully air-conditioned factory uses silos and tanks for handling bulk raw materials limiting human effort and cutting production time.
The closed production systems and recycling plants drastically reduces emission, highlighting Jotun’s commitment to sustainable development. The plant is also equipped with high expansion foam systems to combat fires ensuring the highest standards of operational safety and a healthy work environment.
The inauguration of the new factory was attended by its Saudi Arabian founding partners, Sheikh Marie Bin Mahfouz and Sheikh Ahmed Al Amoudi, along with senior executives from Jotun A/S, including Odd Gleditsch d.y, Chairman; Odd Gleditsch Jr, Norwegian partner; Morten Fon, President & CEO, Jotun A/S Norway; and Gunnar Thoresen, MD, Jotun Saudia Co. Ltd. Sheikh Ibrahim Badawi, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Yanbu, and His Excellency Carl Wibye, Norwegian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia were the chief guests.
The inauguration of the new factory coincides with Jotun’s 25th anniversary in the Kingdom. With strong growth witnessed in Saudi Arabia’s infrastructure development, the need for the expanded Jotun paint factory is considered strategic and well-timed.
