Al Ghurair and Hitachi join hands to offer Advanced Sewage Treatment Plant for Masafi Village

In an effort to extend their socially responsibility to the growing UAE community, Chairman of Al Ghurair, Mr. Abdullah Al Ghurair together with Hitachi’s President Dr. Sumikawa jointly inaugurated the advanced sewage treatment plant at the Masafi Village.

The first membrane sewage treatment plant to cater to the growing needs of the residents of the Masafi village, received a warm response by the local community. Other esteemed guest present at the event were Mr. Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, RAK Municipality Mr. Mohammad Abduallah Al Maherzi, Mr. Saied Sultan Shahin from Masafi Ras-al-Khima, Mr. Ali Abdullah, Fujairah Municipality, and Mr. Khameez Al Damhani from the Masafi Municipality. Also representing Masafi were and. A delegation of senior representatives from Al Ghurair and Hitachi were also present at this event.

The residents of Masafi currently depend on sewage tankers evacuating sewage from the village to a remote sewage treatment plant and they also depend on sweet water tankers or well water to use for irrigation and other applications. The new plant serving the population of 2000 people will give the residents a local treatment facility and a valuable source of high quality water. The installation of this plant  will be completed in four months time.

“This is one of our many initiatives to do something good for our local community and the residents of the Masafi Village. We also want to value our natural resources and hence want to introduce an environmentally friendly highly advanced technology for waste water treatment in the area”, says Mr.Essa Al Ghurair, Chairman Al Ghurair Foods.

“We want to preserve the precious ground water of Masafi and use it for drinking purposes only. Hence, introducing a high quality water treatment system using the most advanced technology to locally treat and convert the sewage produced to high quality water (that is odorless & colorless) and make it suitable for irrigation purposes is what we intend to achieve by introducing the sewage treatment plant”, commented Dr. Sumikawa, President, Hitachi Plant Technologies.

Unlike the conventional sewage treatment plant, the advanced waste water treatment uses Hitachi’s Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) technology, one of the best in the market in terms of high quality of treated water and reduced Carbon Footprint. It will be operated with a 500 CBM/Day treatment capacity. This environmentally friendly process requires less energy and will give high consistency in the quality of water that can be safety used for irrigation and other industrial applications in the town of Masafi.

Al Ghurair and Hitachi have already established a joint company for water recycling in the UAE utilizing the same technology for high grade industrial water located in Al Qouz, Dubai.
The idea was born during Mr. Abdullah Al Ghurair’s visit to Japan in May this year to foster the existing partnership between Al Ghurair and Hitachi Plant Technologies. Mr. Abduallah Al Ghurair encouraged Hitachi to contribute to the welfare of his favorite town where his farm and factory are located.
