Jumeirah College collect books for students in Afghanistan

JC students Two students from Jumeirah College led an appeal that resulted in 4,000 books being collected for a girl’s school and a literacy centre in Afghanistan. Of the total books collected, the student council at the Rashid School for Boys donated 1,200 books in the “A book a day will give them a say!” campaign.

The appeal initially targeted collecting 1,000 books for the school in Afghanistan but received more books than first anticipated.

Christina Patronis, one of the students that initiated the appeal from Jumeirah College said, “The campaign aims to provide young people like ourselves in Afghanistan the chance to become active members of the community. The children there, especially young girls, are in desperate need for the world’s support in gaining access to English books, as they continue to suffer from ravages of war. We thank the students from the Rashid School for Boys for their support in this humanitarian appeal.”

This is the first time that the two school student councils have worked in collaboration and its success has inspired them to join forces for other community projects in the coming year.
