Knauf factory on time and on track at RAK FTZ Industrial Park

knauf-topping-ceremonyKnauf, one of the leading producers of building materials worldwide, celebrated a local milestone with a Topping Ceremony at Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone (RAK FTZ) Industrial Park. The event was held to show appreciation to all the participants of the construction project, for completing the steel construction phase of the company’s new facilities.

True to the company’s German tradition, the ceremony was attended by all the Knauf managers, employees, workers and contractors as well as representatives of RAK FTZ.

“We are very happy to announce that the steel building of our plant is completed,” shares Mehmet Oezaydin, General Manager of Knauf RAK. “Everything went according to plan. This would not have been possible if not for the excellent effort of our trustworthy workers – so we give them our wholehearted appreciation. We also thank our contractors and the RAK FTZ representatives, especially H.H. Sheikh Faisal bin Saqr Al Qasimi and CEO Oussama El Omari, for their support.”

knauf-factory_1Organised by Knauf contractor Unger Steel, the celebration proved to be a great leveller, giving each person who contributed to the success of the project a measure of his accomplishment. The event was followed by a formal dinner at the Hilton RAK hotel attended by H.H. Sheikh Faisal Bin Saqr Al Qasimi.

The plant, once completed, will produce building materials such as gypsum boards, metal studs, channels, joint compounds, drywall accessories and plasters, to be used on construction sites across the Middle East. Its capacity will be approximately 50 million square metres of gypsum boards per year. The Knauf RAK investment is worth AED 500 million, the biggest investment in RAK FTZ.

“Knauf finishing their steel construction on schedule is a great indicator that the companies within RAK FTZ are recovering from the effects of the global economy,” says Oussama El Omari.

“This goes to show that together we can continue to create milestones, accomplish projects step-by-step and create further job opportunities for the existing workforce that has had to bear the brunt of the global downturn.”

“We congratulate Knauf for this accomplishment, and we assure them that we at RAK FTZ will always be there to support their projects,” he concludes.
