HH was received by Juma Al Majid, Chairman of Dubai Economic Affairs Council and Founder of the Juma Al Majid Heritage and Culture Centre; His Excellency Ibrahim Bumelha, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Foundation; Ibrahim Saleh, Coordinator General of DSF Office; Abdul Rahman Al Saleh, Senior Executive Director of Corporate Affairs at Dubai Customs; Abdul Rahman Eesa, Chairman of Carpet and Arts Oasis; and other senior officials.
His Highness Sheikh Majid met with several exhibitors who explained the different types of carpets and their origins. A memento from the event organizers was also handed over to HH as an act of appreciation for his support of cultural events. HH, on his part, appreciated the efforts in setting up the event and especially admired the Fardha Exhibition – a display of photographs, antiques, and memoirs of Dubai and UAE dating back to the 1800s.
Carpet and Arts Oasis features over 100,000 masterpieces of exquisite hand woven carpets of different shapes, colors, sizes and designs, some of which bear the signature of the most renowned artisans in the trade.
Held for the fourteenth year in a row at the West Hall of Dubai International Airport Exhibition Centre, the exhibit covers a massive 12,000 square metres and is among the notable events in the Dubai Shopping Festival itinerary, attracting visitors from the Middle East, especially from the Gulf Cooperation Council states.
Carpet and Arts Oasis also features live presentations on carpet weaving so that visitors will have the chance to familiarize themselves with the most common techniques in carpet weaving and what colours and fabrics to use to create unique personalized carpets.
71 exhibitors are participating in the Carpet & Arts Oasis 2009, giving visitors the chance to see and select the kind of carpets and rugs that represent a true reflection of the civilizations, cultures and arts of the countries they are made in.
