ALDAR, one of Abu Dhabi’s leading property development companies, is to commission seven hotels on its Yas Island destination in time for the UAE capital’s hosting of the finale round of the 2009 Formula One Grand Prix this November, reported the official news agency WAM.
The hotels – four 5 star properties, one 4 star and two 3 star – together will boost Abu Dhabi’s accommodation inventory by 2,298 rooms and its food and beverage stock by 30 outlets, including 20 individual restaurants.
The multi-million-dollar investment was outlined by ALDAR’s Chairman Ahmed Al Sayegh and pledged the company’s support for the Gourmet Abu Dhabi world-class culinary event being held in the UAE capital next month.
Al Sayegh said the event, which runs throughout 13 premier venues across Abu Dhabi from February 5-14 and features a galaxy of award-winning masterchefs, culinary celebrities and personalities, would help the UAE capital attain its ambitions of being a global culinary destination.
“Abu Dhabi will have the most magnificent facilities in the Middle East in the coming years as we are planning some of the most spectacular facilities and restaurants which, coupled with the emirate’s genuine love of dispensing hospitality, will provide us with a solid base for the world-class professionals at this event to help us build on.
“Part of Abu Dhabi’s offering should be, and will be, great food and, as in our culture food is offered with respect to our guests, not just as a source of sustenance, but in a spirit of friendship, this event will forge friendships out of mutual respect.” Al Sayegh said Gourmet Abu Dhabi would also give the Arabian Gulf a great opportunity to press home its own culinary heritage.
“While we have the world’s best chefs here, I hope we can also influence them by introducing them to the many aspects of our cuisine. We are an authentic destination and it is important that we encourage these masterchefs to a greater understanding of the cuisine of this region which might influence their menus in the future,” he said.
ALDAR Hotels ‘&’ Hospitality is playing a pioneering role in Gourmet Abu Dhabi 2009 with its Director of Development, Raman Khanna conducting a free-to-attend educational seminar devoted to Arabian Hospitality at the Armed Forces Officers Club on February 11.
Al Sayegh said the company would be setting up its involvement in the annual event next year.
“In 2010 an ALDAR property will be among the hosting establishments,” he pledged.
The ALDAR properties due on line this year include: the five-star deluxe Yas Marina, Crowne Plaza, Rotana and Radisson SAS; the four-star Staybridge Suites and three-star Park Inn and Centro by Rotana.
Gourmet Abu Dhabi features 40 events including master classes, a food ‘&’ beverage forum and a gala dinner which will include the presentation of the inaugural Gourmet Abu Dhabi Stars awards.
